'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' Episode 4: Did John Walker take the Super Soldier Serum?
Spoilers for ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Episode 4
‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ took an unexpected turn in Episode 4 when it went into flashback and showed how Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) got rid of his past when he was in Wakanda. It was undoubtedly one of the finest moments in the history of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and fans felt really emotional after seeing that scene.
However, the episode was primarily focused on John Walker (Wyatt Russell), aka Captain America, and his pursuit to become a better superhero.
Episode 4 saw Sam, Bucky, and Baron Zemo going to an unnamed location for having a conversation with Karli Morgenthau. In the process, they meet John Walker and his partner Lamar. They get together in order to find Karli and convince her to stop causing mayhem. However, their plan is foiled when Walker interferes and tries to arrest Karli. But, she manages to escape.

Karli is stopped in his tracks by Zemo with a gun in his hand. While saving herself from Zemo, she manages to drop on the vials of Super Soldier Serum on the floor. Zemo destroys all the vials before getting knocked out by Walker.
However, Walker sees that one vial is still not broken and has the serum intact in it. He takes the vial and puts it in his suit.
Did he take the serum and become a super soldier like Steve Rogers? Let’s dig deeper and see what happened after that.
Why did John Walker take the ‘Super Soldier Serum’?
In Episode 3, we saw Ayo (Florence Kasumba) tracking Bucky in order to kill Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl). Ayo, along with two more members of Dora Milaje, visits Bucky and threatens Baron that he will die soon. However, the new Captain America and his partner Lamar are also present there. Walker doesn’t know about them and says, “I think we got on the wrong foot.”
The members of Dora Milaje beat the hell out of Walker and his partner before they are stopped by Bucky and Sam. After the fight, Walker realizes that he doesn’t have the strength to fight with such people. Later in the episode, Walker and Lamar are trying to catch Karli. While searching the building, Lamar is taken away by the Flag-Smashers and Walker searches the entire building to look for his buddy.
However, he is attacked by one of the Flag-Smashers and a fight breaks out between the good guys and the bad guys. In the meantime, Lamar manages to free himself and help his friend in fighting the enemies. But one of the flag-smashers kills him and the whole room is stunned by what just happened.
Walker gets furious after seeing what just happened and fights one of the members of the anti-patriotism group. Now, here’s when things get interesting. The Flag-Smasher tries to hit him with a big metal pipe, he stops the pipe with the shield and bends the pipe with his right hand. A few moments later, he gets out of the building by breaking the window and landing on a car even without hurting himself.
Now, there are no guesses that he has taken the serum and become an actual ‘Super Hero’. The episode ends with Walker brutally killing one of the members of the group as everyone watches him with fear in their eyes.
The reason he took the serum is simple: he wanted to become Captain America. Steve Rogers became a national hero because of the serum and there is no denying that he could only fight super-villains because he had that serum in his body. Secondly, he hates himself for getting his ass kicked from everyone and now wants to prove to the world that he has everything that is needed to become a national hero.
However, one thing that the makers took from the comics is his aggression and how he kills the Flag-Smasher. In comics, people start hating Walker because of his aggressive nature and how mercilessly he kills people. That’s what makes him different than Steve Rogers.
If the makers decided to keep going with the flow, we might see Walker becoming the antagonist really soon. The ardent fans of Marvel know how insane he got in the comics and why he had to give up his shield. Are we going to see the same in ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’? Well, we will surely get an answer to this question in future episodes.
‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ returns to Disney+ with a new episode every Friday.
