SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ came to an end on a high note as the K-drama finale had its highest TV viewership rating with 17.5% nationwide. The ending was satisfying for a lot of viewers as it wrapped up all the story arcs and gave a happy ending to Woo Young-woo. Actress Park Eun-bin was also commended for acting as an autistic lawyer that had actual autistic viewers happy for the representation. In fact, its immense popularity has led to the creators discussing a season 2.

Unexpectedly, a lot of the K-drama’s viewers actually do not want season 2. While ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ was called an almost perfect K-drama, by the second half, the Internet started nitpicking. Viewers reprimanded Attorney Jung’s cancer storyline as it shows Young-woo being insensitive about his chances of survival. They also felt that the drama had started becoming too invested in the cases rather than Young-woo as an autistic lawyer navigating in a fast-paced work environment. Many also did not like the love line between Soo-yeon and Min-woo who was the initial antagonist.

Viewers don’t want ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ season 2

With ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ being initially promoted as a slice-of-life comedy and healing drama, the episodes focused on different cases and how Young-woo tackled them. Viewers think the K-drama lost this sitcom feel with Tae Su-mi’s intense storyline. Many are also upset with the possibility that fan-favorite Kang Tae-Oh might not retain his role as Lee Jun-ho in ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ season 2 as he will be enlisting for his mandatory military service in the next couple of weeks.

Viewers also worry that the quality of season 2 could go down and ruin the whole K-drama. With Su-mi’s storyline being resolved in the finale, fans wondered if it had the potential of being stretched into season 2 and if her active role as Young-woo’s mother would affect the drama.

All 16 episodes of the K-drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' is on Netflix.

‘End it while people are still happy’

Knetz left comments as they were not too excited about season 2, “Just end it while people are still happy with it~ I don't think a second season is necessary... it's fine the way it is now.” Another wrote, “It's been getting boring in the second half, not sure about a second season.” One user added, “I think the fun and original story that it started as is getting looser as the plot goes on. There's a lot of forced plot points in the second half.”

Even fans made tweets like, “Unpopular opinion eaw doesnt need a s2,” “Why does eaw need a s2 like.. she’s fine where she is,” and “I  haven’t seen no one be happy about eaw getting a s2 💀💀💀.” Another explained, “I feel like it’s unnecessary cause they can just finish it in one season, or just add more eps (20 eps) if it’s bot enough. It’s just a light law drama🥹🫶🏻 but nvm hahah.” One user said, “Didnt see that coming tho there’s a bunch of kdramas out there who more deserves s2 than eaw.” One fan explained why they were worried, “Tbh i still have mixed feels about eaw s2 bc on one hand, it means that it’s not completely over and they’ll be back in my life again. but also i’m worried about how they’ll maintain the quality for another season.”

Another wondered, “I don't have any idea what they will do with s2. I think that if you want the conflict to be extended, it can actually threaten the quality of the drama. Then, talking about romance, I don't have a problem either but why is there a love triangle?” One wrote, “The best shows get the job done in 10 episodes a season. My problem with a lot of kdramas is that they drag on for too long and become aimless after a while.” Another fan felt, “Meh, was. Ok until episode 7 , and kinda ridiculous how she starting to act more “normal” with time,I swear kdramas.”

‘Can’t wait to see season 2’

However, some liked the idea of a season 2. One fan posted, “Eaw is honestly the first 2022 kdrama which its finale didn't feel underwhelming to me. even though i had a lot of concerns regarding an open ending and s2, it was wrapped so nicely and thoroughly! pure comfort.” One fan wrote, “So now people are being pressed over EAW popularity and the fact that it's getting a S2. Hating on a popular drama has become a trend on stan twitter these days. Will just say - STAY PRESSED LOL.” Another added, “I just loved everything about this drama, plot, characters, and development.. cant wait to see season 2. I wanna see more of Youngwoo and her brother, and Hanbada team is now perfect together them working together more, also Youngwoo Junho wedding scene.”
