2021 AMAs: Date, how to livestream, nominees and all about 49th edition of music awards

Olivia Rodrigo is leading the pack this year with seven nominations including Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year

The 49th edition of American Music Awards fondly known as AMAs is all set to take place in Los Angeles. The who’s who of the music industry will descend on the red carpet as they will celebrate the best of the lot. The nominations for the coveted award ceremony were announced in October. 2021 The AMAs have added new categories this year, including favorite trending song, favorite gospel artist, and favorite Latin duo or group.
 
Olivia Rodrigo, who had an amazing year with her debut album ‘Sour’, is leading the pack with seven nominations including Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. The Weeknd, who has earlier won five American Music Awards, scored six nominations this year including the Artist of the Year. Bad Bunny, Doja Cat, and Giveon managed to earn five nods each. Speaking of presenters, artists namely Machine Gun Kelly, Liza Koshy, Marsai Martin and Billy Porter among a few others will get on the stage to give away the awards.

Date and venue

The 49th edition of AMAs will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 21. The venue has earlier hosted renowned events like Emmys, the Grammys, and the MTV Video Music Awards, along with others over the last few years.

Who is hosting  2021 AMAs?

The Queen of hip-hop Cardi B has been roped in as the show’s host for this year. The ‘WAP’ hitmaker, who has earlier won AMAs five times, will be taking the responsibilities of the ceremony’s host for the very first time. For the uninitiated, Cardi B has is up for three nominations this year- Favourite Music Video, Favourite Female Artist - Hip-Hop and Favourite Song - Hip-Hop. Speaking on hosting the show, Cardi in a statement said, as reported by Billboard, “When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited. I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage! Thank you to Jesse Collins, ABC and MRC for making this happen.”



 

How to livestream?

The American Music Awards are expected to have a live audience. Those sitting at home will be able to enjoy the award ceremony on ABC at 8 pm EST/7 pm Central Time. One can also log in to the official website of the network the next day to get all the scoop. AMAs will also be up for streaming on Hulu the next day.

Presenters

Artists like Brandy, Madelyn Cline, Ansel Elgort & Rachel Zegler, Winnie Harlow, and Machine Gun Kelly have been given the responsibility to present the awards. Apart from these, public figures namely Liza Koshy, Marsai Martin, Billy Porter, Anthony Ramos, JoJo Siwa, and JB Smoove will also be performing similar duties.
