'Euphoria': With Zendaya and Jacob Elordi dating, is a Nate-Rue romance on the cards in Season 2?
With Zendaya and Jacob Elordi being a thing, the one thing fans of either haven't been able to stop talking about is what that would mean for their characters in the show that introduced them to each other - HBO's 'Euphoria.'
The very moment news of the two hot young stars being a couple surfaced on the interwebs, fans were struck with the perplexing question: Nate Jacobs dating Rue Bennett? Now in the world of 'Euphoria' and its absolutely disastrous reality, Nate and Rue could never be a thing. They shouldn't actually because let's be real - they both happen to be in love with the same girl - Jules, played by Hunter Scheffer. But at the end of 'Euphoria', with Jules leaving town for what seemed like good and Rue deciding to ditch her and stay back at the last minute the possibilities of a Rue and Jules romance prospering seems bleak.
And when it comes to the monstrous manipulating abuser Nate Jacobs, who Jules fell in love with over a dating website where he catfished her, he shouldn't have a shot at the pure and wholesome trans girl no matter his feelings or prospective struggles in the closet. That Nate's girlfriend Maddie (Alexa Demie) has the CD recording of his voyeuristic father preying on Jules is a whole other ballgame, but his and Jules love story is over for good.
So do Nate and Rue give up on their feelings for Jules and join forces together? We sure hope the heck not! For starters, Rue loathes Nate. There's hardly a person in town she hates more than Nate simply because of the way he manipulated Jules and threatened to leak her nudes after acquiring them by catfishing her. And also because his father, Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane) is a bigger manipulative monster who not only mistreats his son and family, but also goes around preying on underage men and trans women. Not to forget, Nate's manipulation had left Jules lost and torn, disturbed and feeling violated, to the point where leaving town is the only moiety of relief she could acquire. So chances of Rue falling for Nate's sh*t shouldn't even be on the radar.
That said, it will be interesting to see how the real life relationship transpires beyond the hate-filled dynamics between the two characters. Knowing the incredible cast, it's no doubt that Zendaya or Jacob will have no trouble in separating real life from reel, but if you ask fans, they often take to Twitter to express curiosity asking "Are nate and rue going to be item?" Trust us, we too want to know! But the more conclusive side of Twitter believes "We really should be tweeting about Rue’s strategy to kill Nate but this b**ch COVID is the fun police and it’s upsetting me and my homegirl."
Other fans are also of the opinion that "Rewatching euphoria AGAIN makes me realize that I f**king HATE nate and rue needs to want better for herself." So the verdict is out. No, a Nate and Rue romance should never be a thing on the HBO dark drama.
Season 2 of Euphoria has been greenlit but a release date is yet to be announced.
