With the Internet plastered with photos of Zendaya and Hunter Schaffer in masks, possibly filming in the night and taking time to say hello to fans who chanced upon them, we knew this wasn't going to be far but HBO pretty much stumped us all announcing the special drops this December. Arriving before Season 2, sort of as a between-season filler are two brand new episodes of the network's dark and gritty teen drama 'Euphoria'. Here's all you need to know about it!

Release date

One of the first announcements of the special came from Zendaya herself, as the youngest Emmy winner in the leading role drama category took to her social media to announce, "We really missed them. Two special Euphoria episodes coming soon. First one December 6th on @hbo." The episode will immediately head to the network's streaming portal HBO Max after its regular TV premiere. The second one, still untitled, hasn't received a release date yet, although filmed.

Plot

The last we saw Rue, she most likely relapsed in the wake of the love of her life (so-far) Jules leaving her. Jules and Rue had plans of leaving the town, but the latter back out at the last moment. As she watched Jules ride away on the train, Rue returned home heartbroken and on the brink of a crash. Jules was holding her sobriety together and she had probably realized the need to let her go. But the finale ended on a blurred note: we didn't really know what that cryptic but captivating dance sequence meant and whether Rue is dead or alive.

But the synopsis of the first special episode titled 'Trouble Don’t Last Always' teases Rue alive and well, although struggling to cope under the loss of Jules. She, however, does find a comforting confidante in fellow recovering addict Ali, the tough guy asking Rue to get her shit sorted and stick to meetings and sobriety in Season 1 as well.

Cast

Zendaya will return to reprise her Emmy-winning role of recovering addict and narrator Rue Bennett; Schaffer plays Rue's object of desire and teenage soulmate Jules. Colman Domingo will play Ali and the rest of the cast reprising their roles from Season 1 will be Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs, Alexa Demie as Maddie Perez, Sydney Sweeney as Casey, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Angus Cloud as Fezco, Storm Reid as Rue's sister Gia among others.

Creator

'Euphoria' was created by Sam Levinson and based loosely on his own life and the Israeli miniseries of the same name.

Trailer

A trailer for either of the episodes dropping this December hasn't been released yet. Treat yourself to the Season 1 trailer and watch this space for more updates.
