Eagle-eyed 'Emily in Paris' fans catch Netflix dramedy's wholesome tribute to iconic 90's show
The 'Sex and the City' and 'Emily in Paris' connections are not new news. But in the recently-released season 5 of the hit Netflix dramedy, there is a conscious and wholehearted homage to the iconic 90s show. Lily Collins' character starts the new season in Rome, and one of the scenes as she returns to the Capital is that of her looking at the Eiffel Tower in awe.

Eagle-eyed fans who have also watched 'Sex and the City' have likened it to the popular clip of Carrie Bradshaw marveling at the legendary landmark for the first time. The show's faithful believe this is a deliberate move by the series's creative team to pay a nod to the hit show.

In related news, the success of 'Emily in Paris' Season 5 saw the dramedy renewed for a sixth season by the streamer. Netflix took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement. "Home sweet home," the caption read on Monday. "Emily in Paris is returning for Season 6!" Season 5 garnered 26.8 million views globally in just 11 days upon release, becoming the No. 1 TV series in several countries — including France, Italy, Brazil, and Germany.
Created by Darren Starr, the series also stars Minnie Driver, Philippine Leroy-Bealieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, Lucien Lavisount, Thalia Besson, Paul Forman, Arnaud Binard, Bryan Greenberg, and Michele Laroque.
For those yet to watch season 5, the synopsis reads, “Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities."
Earlier, Starr teased the future of the show. "There are a lot of places I’d love to visit. But I think the show organically [follows] the storyline,” Star said at a press conference last month, per Tudum. "The show is Emily in Paris. It’s never going to permanently leave its home base. But if I can take the audience on a journey somewhere else, I would love that … [It’s] fun to think about."
'Emily in Paris' Season 5 is streaming on Netflix.
