Elisabeth Moss faces her greatest moral test in David Shore's legal thriller 'Conviction'
Elisabeth Moss will have to choose between doing the right thing or risking her dark secrets being revealed to the world. The 'Shell' star has been tapped to play the lead in David Shore's legal thriller 'Conviction'. Hulu has greenlit the series order for the drama based on Jack Jordan's 2023 book of the same name.
Shore's latest sees criminal Defense Attorney Neve Harper (Moss) finally land a case that makes her career. The case follows a high-profile murder where the husband is the main accused in his wife's murder. However, things begin to unravel for Harper when she starts getting blackmailed by a mysterious stranger. Per Deadline, "she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal — or else risk her dark secrets being exposed."
The outlet added that 'Conviction' was in the development phase for some time, and the greenlight came after a second full script by Shore to Hulu executives. The writing is set to commence in the next 10 days, and production will go on floors in New York this June. Shore and Erin Gunn serve as executive producers alongside Littlefield, Ann Johnson, and Lisa Harrison. Moss and Lindsey McManus along with Jordan, round up the EPs.
At the time of writing, there is no official word on the rest of the cast and a potential release date. As for Moss, the actress comes off her Emmy-winning role in the hit series, 'The Handmaid's Tale'. She also starred in Hulu's limited series, 'The Veil'. Up next, she will be seen in the Apple TV series' Imperfect Women' and also serve as the EP for the show.
In related news, Moss once revealed how she first passed on the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ role. "Thank God that worked out the right way," she told Deadline. "I wasn’t quite sure if I was ready to make that commitment again, so I actually passed the first time they offered it to me."
"I know, it seems insane now," she added. "I’m so glad I’ve corrected that. And then they came back, and they very nicely offered it again, blah, blah, blah. Then the thing that clinched it was … they leaked it to me—obviously on purpose—who they were going to offer it to if I didn’t take it, and I was like, 'Over my dead body.'"
