Ed Sheeran ‘Shivers’ fan reviews: Singer acts lovestruck, fans find look 'bizarre'

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter’s latest track is the third single from his upcoming fourth studio album called ‘=’(equals)

Ed Sheeran seems to have found love in eccentric pop music videos as after getting rave views for his previous music video of ‘Bad Habits’, the award-winning crooner is now back again with a brand new single called ‘Shivers' accompanied with equally colorful and wild visuals.  

The 30-year-old singer-songwriter’s latest track is the third single from his upcoming fourth studio album called ‘=’(equals). He previously thrilled his loyal fans with the tracks like ‘Visiting Hours’ and ‘Bad Habits’. Sheeran’s latest studio effort will be up for streaming on October 29 via Atlantic Records. ‘Shivers’ is a follow-up to ‘Bad Habits’ which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Global 200 chart.  The singer also performed the track for the first time Live during the 2021 NFL Kickoff Experience in Tampa Bay, Florida on September 9, 2021, i.e. the same day the song was released.

Ed Sheeran’s new single ‘Shivers’ has been helmed by Dave Meyers and features ‘The Carrie Diaries’ actress AnnaSophia Robb where the duo can be seen indulging in a whirlwind romance. The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker dons several different looks in the outlandish music video. Like a typical love story, the MV is packed with a dance number, and a street brawl while also incorporating superpowers.

Speaking of lyrics, Sheeran kicks off the catchy pop number with, “I took an arrow to the heart/ I never kissed a mouth that taste like yours/ Strawberries and somethin' more/ Ooh, yeah, I want it all/ Lipstick on my guitar, ooh/ Fill up the engines, we can drive real far/ Go dancing underneath the stars. Whereas, on the chorus, the singer goes, “Ooh, I love it when you do it like that/ And when you're close up, give me thе shivers/ Oh, baby, you wanna dance 'til the sunlight cracks/ And whеn they say the party's over then we bring it right back.”

Sheeran had shed light on his new single a few days ago via Instagram. "I wrote this as soon as the Divide tour ended in a rented farm in Suffolk where we had set up a studio for a couple of weeks to see what happened”, he said. “It was written over the course of 3 days which is very different for me, but I felt it was too special to get wrong.” The singer added, “It was originally meant to be the first single but I just didn't see a world where 'Bad Habits' existed if it didn't come out in the summer. Shivers always felt more autumnal. I hope you like it, I bloody love it." Sheeran channeled Elton John by donning feathers, sequins, fringe, rose-colored glasses and silver pants in new promo photos.

‘Most bizarre thing I have ever seen’, claims Twitter

Social media users thronged to Twitter as soon as Ed Sheeran dropped the music video for his latest single. While a few praised others slammed the video for being bizarre. One user stated, “Shivers by Ed sheeran is such a f**king bop. I can’t.” Another added, “Ed Sheeran's new song is so freaking good! I love it! I love it so much. Give me shivers.” The next one posted, “I don't think @edsheeran can actually make a bad song - #Shivers is sooooo good!!!! He doesn't miss!!!”
 
Meanwhile, one noted, “Ed Sheeran making everyone dance with #Shivers he never disappoints.” And, another tweeted, “@edsheeran’s new song “shivers” makes me wanna dance all day and all night.” One, however, criticized the crooner, “I’m actually an Ed Sheeran fan but neither Bad Habits or Shivers have given me what I need. Shivers sounds like something I’ve heard before. I keep humming it and I can’t think of it and it’s gonna drive me crazy. Especially the bridge, this is so familiar.” Another on similar lines, posted, “You should hire an actor for your music videos instead of doing it yourself cause no offense this isn't working looks ridiculous.” While, one concluded, “Just when I thought Bad Habits’ MV was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen, Ed appears and drops Shivers’ MV.”
