'Dynasty' season 3: Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about The CW's explosive soap reboot

Season three will reveal the fates of Liam and Anders while it debuts its third actress for the role of Cristal as Ana Brenda Contreras leaves the show
PUBLISHED AUG 19, 2019

When season two of 'Dynasty' ended with several revelations on secrets and betrayals, not one, but two bodies were recovered from the lake near the Carrington mansion and Liam was seen floating facedown in the pool as the scene faded to black.

Blake and Cristal's apparent fight was a ruse to deceive Michael Culhane and frame him for Blake's crimes with the latter ending up getting arrested by the FBI before the season ended. Fallon sold her publishing company, Femperial, to Kirby for $1 intending to buy it back and remain one step ahead of Blake, only to have Kirby reveal that she does not plan on selling Femperial back to Fallon.

Anders, meanwhile, quits his service with the Carringtons, effective immediately, to work for Sammy Jo managing his new hotel. Adam, in his continuous scheming against his sister Fallon, hires divers to recover a ring Fallon lost earlier. The divers, however, end up digging up two bodies, one presumed to be Fallon's high school friend whom she pushed accidentally down the stairs which was covered up by Anders.

'Dynasty' has been plagued with recasting issues from the beginning and season three will see the show's third incarnation of Cristal played by Daniella Alonso. The character was previously played by Nathalie Kelly who left the show after season one and Ana Brenda Contreras who also announced that she was done with the show after one season. James Mackay and Nicolette Sheridan, who played Steven Carrington and Alexis Carrington respectively, left the show during season two. While there is hope that Steven makes an appearance in future seasons, the role of Alexis Carrington has been taken over by Elizabeth Gillies who also plays Fallon Carrington.

Release Date

Season three is set to premiere on The CW Network on October 11, 2019, at 9 PM ET.

Plot

The official synopsis released by The CW in June does not offer any insights into the future for Cristal. When season two ended, Blake and Cristal's relationship was as strong as ever so Contreras' exit could be offscreen. However, the third incarnation of Cristal will be coming into the Carringtons' lives and we can only wonder how she will be introduced into the storyline.

The synopsis does state that Fallon's battles with her rivals have not ended, with Adam leading the list, "who takes the idea of 'sibling rivalry' to a whole new level of crazy". It also states that Fallon and Liam continue to keep their relationship sane, indicating that Liam does survive his season two fall. Meanwhile, Blake returns after a year of "me time" to take back his empire from his daughter. We can also expect to see more of Dominique Deveraux — the Colby siblings' mother — after the actress who plays her, Michael Michele, was promoted to series regular. Meanwhile, viewers can expect to see a whole new side to Sammy Jo's life as he continues his upper-class lifestyle as a hotel owner.

The network promises the popping up of new and old faces, and shocks and twists that are characteristic of the Carrington world.
