'Dancing With the Stars': Monica Aldama scored higher than Nev, fans say 'Val has something on the judges'
Cheerleading coach and the star of 'Cheer', Monica Aldama was touted as one of the biggest celebrities on 'Dancing With the Stars'. Agility, flexibility, and grace were no problem for her given her flourishing career in the cheerleading industry and it was a no-brainer that she'd do amazing in the dance competition. However, all of those expectations came crumbling down with Monica's troubles in the initial episodes of the show.
The judges on the show: Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough are really tough and extracting an extra point from them is a Herculean task that Monica and her partner, pro-dancer Val Chmerkovskiy weren't able to do. They were also one of the bottom two couples, two weeks ago. However, their fate changed for the better last week when two judges scored her a 9. A lot of fans said that these were sympathy points to make up for the goof-up from the previous week where the couple was initially announced safe and then had to return to the stage as they were in the bottom two. However, they proved it this week that those scores were indeed earned after all three judges gave her rumba performance a 9/10.
Her performance this week was a dedication to her husband Chris with who she had gotten divorced a year ago. The two were school sweethearts, even went to prom together, married young and enjoyed their life through and through. However, the responsibilities and other hardships led to them drifting apart and the two decided to head towards splitsville and a year later Monica realized that divorce wasn't the best decision as she considered Chris his soulmate. That's when they remarried and since then, the two have always prioritized each other over anything and that's seemed to work wonderfully for them.
All three judges said that they loved seeing the softness, the right balance of sensuality and romance and the clear lines that Monica exhibited during the performance. However, audiences were upset that Monica scored a point higher than Nev Schulman who'd just performed before her. "HOW DID MONICA GET HIGHER THAN NEV?! RIGGED VAL HAS SOMETHING ON THE JUDGES #dwts," wrote a fan. "So you give them all 3 9s but can’t give Nev 3 9s? They weren’t bad at all but Smh #DWTS," wrote another. "Monica was NOT better than Nev but here we are.... again. Also, still hate Tyra as a host. #DWTS," read another tweet. "Monica Aldama's and Val dance was super safe, we r further in the competition I expected more, it was nice, classy, & clean but it needed to be more technical to me. These 9s I guess Nev needed 10s but it's cool #DWTS," read another tweet.
