'Dublin Murders': Release date, plot, cast, trailer, news and everything else you need to know about Starz's new crime thriller

Embroiled in mysticism, and conspiracy, the Starz series will focus on a series of unnatural murders that rocked a small town in Dublin. During the course of the investigation, the detectives, also find out that they are connected to the murders in some weird way.

Based on the 'Dublin Murder Squad' book series by Tana French, Starz's upcoming crime thriller 'Dublin Murders' is a mystery series, wherein a couple of detectives are investigating the murder of a young girl in the local woods in Dublin's Knockaree in the year 2006. As they unfold the details of the murder, it becomes clear that there is more to the mystery than either of them anticipated. 

The series, commissioned by the British Broadcasting Corporation for BBC One and by Starz, and later by Irish public service broadcaster RTÉ, will feature eight episodes all of which are 60 minutes in length.

Release date

'Dublin Murder' premiered on BBC One on Monday, October 14, and later on RTÉ One on October 16, 2019. In the United States, the series is expected to debut on Sunday, November 10.

The official synopsis for 'Dublin Murders' reads: This series, set during the height of the Celtic Tiger financial boom of the millennium, will focus on two murder investigations led by ambitious and charismatic Detectives Rob Reilly and Cassie Maddox. The victims - a young talented ballerina who is found dead on an ancient stone altar; and a vivacious free-spirited woman, who is found stabbed in a roofless famine cottage - are seemingly unrelated, but as we will discover, are actually knitted together by powerful shared themes - the macabre ‘red in tooth and claw’ elements of both stories, and their heart-thumping psychological thriller qualities."

Cast

Conleth Hill stars as Superintendent O'Kelly in 'Dublin Murders' (Starz)

Irish actors Killian Scott and Sarah Greene, play the two detectives who are tasked with solving the murder of the little girl. Scott, best known for his role in 'Love/Hate' will be seen embodying the English detective Rob Reilly, the protagonist of the show, while his partner and former undercover agent Cassandra Maddox is portrayed by Greene, who is best known for her work on London's West End and Broadway performances. She may be also be recognized by 'Penny Dreadful' fans as Hectate Poole. 

The other prominent cast members on the show include 'Love/Hate' star Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Detective Frank Mackey, 'Vikings' star Moe Dunford as Cassandra's love interest Detective Sam O’Neil, Conleth Hill aka Game of Thrones' Lord Varys as Superintendent O’Kelly.

The book series 'Dublin Murder Squad' was penned by American-Irish writer Tana French, who is ranked among the best crime fiction writers across the world. The first season of the series combined the first two books in the series 'In the Woods' and 'The Likeness' together. 

The screenplay for all the episodes in the series, meanwhile, has been written by Sarah Phelps, who is best known for her work on 'EastEnders' and other book-to-serial adaptations, including , Charles Dickens' 'Great Expectations', Oliver Twist,' J. K. Rowling's 'The Casual Vacancy', and Agatha Christie's 'The Witness For the Prosecution' and 'And Then There Were None'.

Where to watch

The show can be watched on BBC One in the UK, RTÉ One in Ireland, and on Starz in the US starting November 10, 2019. Meanwhile, StarzPlay holds broadcasting rights for the series in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
