'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare': Konkana Sen Sharma to Bhumi Pednekar, meet the cast of Netflix's next comedy satire

Indian producer Ekta Kapoor and director Alankrita Shrivastava are back with their new film, 'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare'. The film will release on Netflix on September 18, 2020. It has also premiered at the 24th Busan International Film Festival under the section, 'A Window on Asian Cinema', on October 4, 2019. 

The film features two strong female protagonists, Dolly and Kitty. Konkana Sen Sharma plays the character of Dolly, a mother of two young boys. She is not satisfied with her husband, which leads her to pursue a relationship with a younger pizza delivery boy (Amol Parashar). Her cousin, Kitty (Bhumi Pednekar), works at a call center, providing companionship and phone sex to lonely men. She later meets the seemingly perfect Pradeep (Vikrant Massey) and falls into a relationship with him.

The official synopsis of the movie reads, "A story of two cousins Dolly and Kajal and a secret shared between them. Living in the suburbs of New Delhi, Dolly is a middle-class working mother with a son and a hardworking husband. They are excited as they plan to move to a newly-built luxury apartment. There is a secret they keep to maintain their picture-perfect lifestyle. Kajal moves from rural India to live in a city, but the opportunities are very few for a young woman with little skills. So she works as a cyber-lover under the name Kitty on a dating app and meets a man. Now the two cousins who were critical for each other’s life, share their secrets and understand each other."

Born on December 3, 1979, in a Bengali family, Konkana Sen Sharma, made her name in Bollywood after appearing in several films. She has received two National film awards and four Filmfare Awards for her work. She first gained attention, back in 2002 with her film, 'Mr. and Mrs. Iyer,' which was directed by her mother, and received the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance. Later, she appeared in one of the most controversial film, Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Page 3,' which got her wider recognition, and she has since starred in a number of films, most of which have won her praise rather than commercial success.

Se won two consecutive Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Awards for her performances in 'Omkara' (2006) and 'Life in a... Metro' (2007). In 2017, Sharma decided to don the director's hat and she debuted with her film, 'A Death in the Gunj' for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director. In the same year, she also starred in the critically acclaimed film, 'Lipstick under my burkha.'

Bhumi Pednekar

Born on July 18, 1989, Bhumi Pednekar made her name in Bollywood after her splendid performance in 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' in 2015. The film earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She also received recognition for playing headstrong small-town women in the comedy-dramas in, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' (2017), 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan' (2017),' 'Bala' (2019) and 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' (2019). In 2019, she won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of the septuagenarian sharpshooter Chandro Tomar in Saand Ki Aankh (2019).
