'Doctor Who' Series 12 pays tribute to genius inventor Nikola Tesla, fans hail Episode 4 as the best
This article contains spoilers for 'Doctor Who' Series 12 Episode 4 'Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror'.
In yet another historical episode, the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her companions, Graham O'Brien (Bradley Walsh), Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill), and Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole) travel back in time in the latest episode of 'Doctor Who' to meet the brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla (played by Goran Višnjić) and his rival Thomas Edison (Robert Glenister). Fans are hailing the episode as one of the best to feature the Thirteenth Doctor and praise for the episode is pouring in online.
One fan quoted Tesla's final words in the episode, tweeting "'Let them talk. They’re of the present. I work for the future. And the future is mine.' Well, I mean, Tesla’s not wrong."
"The best part is Tesla looked so comfortable and natural working with The Doctor in the TARDIS," another fan pointed out. "He's absolutely brilliant so he was able to keep up with her and looked like he absolutely fit in! God, I can't stop gushing over this episode!" The same fan also praised Goran Višnjić for his portrayal of the historical figure writing, "I also think the actor they got to play Tesla did a fantastic job! God, it was so good."
Some fans also drew attention to how the episode was reminiscent of another historical adventure the Doctor undertook back in the day, specifically the Series 5 episode 'Vincent and the Doctor'. "Tonight’s episode of #DoctorWho reminded me a bit of 'Vincent and the Doctor'," a fan tweeted. "I’m so happy Nikola Tesla was finally featured in a story!"
However, despite all the love, some fans did wonder why the Doctor didn't wipe Tesla's or Edison's minds with one fan writing, "Overall a pretty good #DoctorWho ep but would like to know why Ada Lovelace and Noor Khan got mindwipes when Edison and Tesla didn’t."
Especially considering the storm that move kicked up, it's quite surprising that the Doctor doesn't offer any explanation for why some people need to forget meeting her while others don't.
'Doctor Who' Series 12 Episode 5 'Fugitive of the Judoon' will air on BBC America on January 26.
