'Doctor Who' Episode 7 Preview: Doctor and her companions must face their fears to save 14th century Syria
Now that we are more than halfway into Season 12 of 'Doctor Who', it is time the Doctor and her companions — Yazmin (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) — to get back to Sheffield for some well-deserved rest and relaxation as well as catch up with the families and friends.
However, it looks like the relaxation bit will have to wait in the upcoming episode titled 'Can You Hear Me'. The Doctor, Yaz, Ryan and Graham find themselves haunted by different experiences as they realize that something is stalking them. It could be in search of an answer to this that takes the foursome to 14th century Syria.
When the Doctor and her companions reach Aleppo in the year 1380, they find the ancient city terrorized by the fearsome Chagaskas. These are a new alien species in 'Doctor Who' cannon and they certainly look terrifying in the promo.
But some figure is calling for the Doctor's help from beyond the stars. Who they are and why they need help might be connected to the Doctor and her fam's experiences as well as the Chagaskas in Aleppo. To solve these mysteries, however, the team needs to take up a mission that will force them to face their darkest fears.
One thing fans will be watching out for is whether showrunner Chris Chibnall might be dropping any more surprises in the upcoming episode. He co-wrote 'Can You Hear Me' with Charlene James ('A Discovery of Witches').
Season 12 so far has featured some explosive reveals including the return of the Master in the season premiere, the return of John Barrowman as Jack Harkness in Episode 5 and the introduction of the first female black Doctor in the same episode.
The episode will also feature Bhavnisha Parmar as Yaz's sister Sonya. Can we expect sparks to fly between Sonya and Ryan, or will something happen between Yaz and Ryan?
'Doctor Who' Season 12 Episode 7 'Can You Hear Me' will air on February 9 on BBC America.
