An iffy start
'The Muppets Mayhem' gets off a rocky start with Lilly Singh's over-enthusiasm and script getting a little off the road, but stumbles on the right path eventually. The story is about Nora and her way to save her company while also dedicating her life to music. The show's incredibly catchy theme song starts to become permanently lodged in your brain, with you starting to hum to it each episode. The series starts with different artists talking about Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and how they influenced their music career.
The episode features Lil Nas X, Tommy Lee and many more artists. The plot of the series is about the band who rocks everyone's world, but when one promise and a hefty payment to make an album never happens, Nora sets out to convince the Mayhem, who have amassed a brigade of fans through decades of touring and various Muppets-related projects, to finally finish that album, their first. The group pretty quickly agrees with Nora, but it turns out getting the band to focus long enough to actually complete the album is an arduous task. After all, they're Muppets, and chaos of all varieties soon ensues.
Where there's Muppets, there's chaos
The best thing about this show is how different each Muppet is and how they bring different things to the table, their impeccable talent shines throughout the series and brings a different shine to an age-old tale. Dr. Teeth (Bill Barretta) is a great leader, he is funny and supportive. Floyd Pepper (Matt Vogel) is a great support system of the band. Janice (David Rudman) takes her vegan lifestyle and valley girl vibe to inspire people and their lifestyle. Zoot (original Muppet Show performer Dave Goelz) is always lost and doesn't know his own whereabouts.
These are great Muppet characters and the show has clearly done a great job bringing out the best, worst and inspiring of them all. While Lilly Singh's Nora is lost and sometime's over-enthusiastic, she is the key character that brings or tries to bring the band to get their first album recording done. All in all, the show is a great tribute to Jim Henson, the creator who brought these characters to life. Moreover, Adam F Goldberg has done an exceptional job by adding an extra layer of color and character to each one of them.
'The Muppets Mayhem' is currently available to watch only on Disney+.
