'Marvel's What If...?' could see T'Challa's Black Panther becoming Star-Lord and leading the Guardians of the Galaxy

Or that's what we know about the series that would explain the 23 MCU movies with a twist. One theory that made the rounds previously was T'Challa and Erik Killmonger growing up together in Wakanda.

'Marvel's What If...' is all about different storylines of the MCU movies. The show will be the first animated content on Disney+ and will derive a bit from the comics with its premise.  The series will have alternate plotlines and will be explained through the eyes of Uatu, the Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright). One of the movies that come in with a twist is Ryan Coogler's 'Black Panther'.

One of the alternate plots that could be explored was What If Erik Killmonger (played by Michael B. Jordan) was actually raised in Wakanda instead of planet earth?  This would mean T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and Killmonger would grow up side by side. The storyline about King T'Chaka killing N'Jobu would maybe not have come to light after all.

And should the brothers still have fought, then it could have been probably about bringing Wakanda to the world and sharing their tech advancements. The other version that is presently doing the rounds is T'Challa becoming the leader of the 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. However, this could probably clash with the footage that was screened at this year's D23 Expo.

Does that mean we will have a different type of leader in T'Challa's Star-Lord? Leaked images did show T'Challa in Peter Quill's costume and his helmet. Showrunner Ashley Bradley while talking about the series has stated one of the episodes will be about T'Challa becoming Star-Lord.

In an interview with DiscussingFilm, Bradley shed light on how each movie will be explored over the course of 'What If...?' but not always individually. She cited the example of  Star-Lord T’Challa shown as part of the presentation at D23, which would combine two or three movies just by itself. She explained: "With Star-Lord T’Challa obviously, we want to know how T’Challa ended up in other planets? What’s the story there? It’s super exciting to work on because again, it’s seeing these characters and seeing the combination of character interactions."
