‘High Potential’ Season 2 slips in ‘Sunset Beach’ alum cameo before finale and most fans totally missed it
Eddie Cibrian, known for ‘Sunset Beach’ and ‘Third Watch’, just made a surprise appearance on ‘High Potential’ Season 2. And while the cameo was not heavily teased beforehand, it landed right in the middle of a tense episode that already had a lot going on. That may explain why some viewers completely missed it. During the episode that aired on March 31, Cibrian stepped into the role of the mayor of Los Angeles, a character who did not exactly roll out the welcome mat for Morgan Gillory at first. At the start, his character seemed reluctant to involve Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) in the investigation. He questioned her presence and even her credibility, which, if you have been following the show, is not exactly a new reaction from people in power.

However, by the time the episode progressed, the mayor provided key information that helped Gillory and the team get closer to the truth. Meanwhile, the episode itself was not exactly light viewing either. According to the official synopsis, “Wagner joins Morgan and the team on a hunt for the crew behind a series of heists ripping through elite private vaults.” As the investigation deepens, they “uncover a far more dangerous endgame a looming cyberattack that could cripple Los Angeles’ core infrastructure.” So yes, a lot was happening. For those still catching up, ‘High Potential’ first premiered in September 2024, introducing audiences to Gillory, a woman with an extraordinary mind. She ends up working alongside the LAPD, helping to solve cases that others cannot quite crack.
Gillory was paired with Detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), who initially questioned her involvement. But over time, and case after case, that skepticism began to fade, replaced by something closer to trust. Season 2, however, decided to shake things up in a much bigger way. When the new season kicked off, it dropped a revelation that changed everything for Gillory: her ex, Roman, was not dead after all. Instead, he had been alive this entire time after disappearing more than ten years ago. The only thing Gillory (and viewers) know so far is that Roman had been working as an FBI informant and, for reasons still unclear, does not trust the LAPD. That puts Gillory in an incredibly complicated position both professionally and personally.
Furthermore, speaking to Us Weekly earlier, showrunner Todd Harthan hinted that this storyline is not that straightforward. “It’s a pretty bumpy ride. We’re going to start unpacking some pretty intense things with Morgan, as it relates to all things Roman,” he said. “It’s just going to get messy and complicated — hopefully in all the best ways so that the audience stays on the edge of their seats.” Harthan also shared that viewers can expect more recognizable guest stars as the season continues. In his words, “In the back half, you’re going to see some really exciting guest stars.” The upcoming episode, which also serves as the season’s finale, is set to air next Tuesday, April 7.
