Last season, the 'Yellowstone' franchise entered network television with 'Marshals.' Despite the change in platforms, the franchise continued its tradition of delivering blockbuster after blockbuster. According to Variety, the spin-off premiered on CBS with 9.5 million viewers, the largest audience for a scripted series in seven years. The renewal was no surprise. Season 2 is set to arrive on Sunday, October 4, but with a few changes. Morgan Lindholm, who played Maddie in the first season, will have an expanded role in the following season, according to Deadline. The actress was in a recurring capacity during the freshman season.

The procedural will also welcome Marque Richardson, known for his work in 'Unprisoned' and 'Dear White People.' He has been cast as Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Burns and will appear in a recurring capacity. For those unaware, Maddie is the estranged daughter of Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Pete 'Cal' Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green). The father-daughter pair began their journey as estranged in the show, but reconciled somewhat by the time the finale arrived. She also called him 'dad' for the first time, before tragedy struck in the finale. The last time the audience saw Maddie, she was in a relationship with Cal's employee, Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means).

Maddie's role expansion is not a surprise, given her close ties with two regular characters, Cal and Miles. Her romance with Miles will surely face its share of highs and lows in the upcoming season. Most importantly, her father is surrounded by a host of problems. Season 1 finale, titled 'Wolves at the Door', ended with Cal in imminent danger, with two men shooting at him. He was also diagnosed with cancer sometime before the events of the finale. All these issues are bound to bring his daughter into the spotlight. Plot details for the upcoming season are kept under wraps, but it will likely follow the consequences of the shootout and Tate Dutton's (Brecken Merrill) kidnapping at the hands of Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey).

Most of the cast from Season 1 of 'Marshals' is expected to return for Season 2. Luke Grimes, Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brecken Merrill, Mo Brings Plenty, and Gil Birmingham will all hopefully be back, at least for the first few episodes. Taylor Sheridan, David Glasser, John Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Grimes Keith Cox, and Art Linson have been billed as the venture's executive producers. Spencer Hudnut serves as both the showrunner and executive producer for the project.
