'Dhaka': Release date, plot, cast, pics and everything you need to know about the Chris Hemsworth, Manoj Bajpai-starrer Netflix movie

'Dhaka' is the directorial debut of stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave, who has worked on several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie revolves around the story of a mercenary hired to rescue the kidnapped son of a Bangladeshi businessman.

The screenplay of the film has been written by Joe Russo. The film has a melange of actors from Hollywood and Bollywood, including Chris Hemsworth, David Harbour, Manoj Bajpai, Pankaj Tripathi, Golshifteh Farahani, and Randeep Hooda. 

The production of the film began in Ahmedabad and Mumbai in early November 2019. The movie was shot across several locations such as Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Thailand, and plate shots in Dhaka, Bangladesh which ended in March 2019.

Release date

The production of the movie ended in March 2019, but the release date of the Netflix film is not yet known.

Plot

The summary of the film reads: “Physically brave but an emotional coward, the man has to come to terms with his identity and sense of self.” The movie is set in the backdrop of weapon dealers and traffickers. A young boy is kidnapped and becomes the pawn in a war between drug lords. His father, a Bangladeshi businessman hires a mercenary named Tyler Rake to save him.

Hemsworth plays the role of Tyler Rake in the film. The actor, who is best known for his character Thor in the 'Avengers' series has also acted in films like 'The Cabin in the Woods' (2012), 'Snow White and the Huntsman' (2012), 'Red Dawn' (2012) and 'Rush' (2013).

Manoj Bajpai

The actor, who has essayed major characters in films like 'Kaun' (1999), 'Shool' (1999), Zubeidaa (2001) and Aks (2001), will be seen in a key role in the film.

Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda will be seen playing a key part. He is known for his roles in movies like 'Highway' (2014), Rang Rasiya (2014) and Sarbjit (2016).

Other actors in the cast include Pankaj Tripathi, David Harbour, Derek Luke, Marc Donato, Fay Masterson, Prashant Narayanan, Golshifteh Farahani, Priyanshu Painyuli, Hays Wellford, Ankit Vaishnav, Rohit Sukhwani, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Bhagwan Tiwari, Suhail Nayyar, Jay Ali, Mir Sarwar, Geetanjali Thapa and Suraj Rikame.

Director/Writer

First-time director Sam Hargrave has taken upon himself to helm the movie from a screenplay by Joe Russo. The film is a co-production between AGBO, the production house of 'Avengers: Infinity War' directors Russo brothers and Netflix.

Hemsworth took to Twitter to share some snippets from behind-the-scenes of the shoot. "Week one down here in India. By far some of the most intense action sequences I’ve been apart of and the heat certainly adds an edge to it but damn we’re getting good stuff!! gonna be unreal. The first shot is of our director, the insanely talented Sam Hargrave," he captioned the post.
