Devastated by Nicola's exit, Coronation Street fans wonder if Eileen Grimshaw is gone for good as well?

The past week has been quite a taxing one for both fans and the cast of ITV hit, 'Coronation Street'. After an eventful season, replete with that Pat Phelan drama, fans were treated to multiple character exits. Firstly, it was new mum Nicola Rubinstein - a character played by Nicola Thorp - who bid goodbye to the cobbles.

Her exit was soon followed by another series regular, Eileen Grimshaw (played by actress Sue Cleaver), and Gary Windass' baby Zack. After enduring a dramatic year and even a death threat, Eileen not only decided to leave Weatherfield for an indefinite time but also appeared to make her departure seem more permanent by renting out her house to Seb Franklin (played by Harry Visonini).

Given that the exits came rather too close, it's only natural that fans be concerned over Cleaver's permanent departure from the popular British soap.

"Nicola and Eileen move to Bristol tonight 7:30 and 8:30pm @itvcorrie #corrie," Thorp shared last week, teasing their character's upcoming travel plans on Coronation Street. Following which, the actress shared another tweet, this time announcing the news of her departure from the series for good.

While it's pretty clear at the moment that the actress is quitting the show after her short stint, a recent report teased that the doors are left open just in case Nicola ever wants to return. "Nicola wanted her exit to play out on screen for viewers and while she is gone for now, the door has been left very much open for her to return," The Sun source was quoted as saying, by the Birmingham Mail.

The same report, apparently, also assured fans of Eileen's comeback. Unlike Nicole, Cleaver's character is said to be taking a short break and would soon be back in an "explosive" style. Despite reports suggesting possibilities of Eileen's return, though, Corrie fans have continued to express their concern on social media.

"I really thought both Nicola and Eileen were coming back soon. Gutted to hear you have actually left as you're such an amazing actress. All the best for the future," wrote one fan.

A second chimed in, adding, "So sorry your character & the character if Eileen have gone. You will both be sadly missed. Will Nicola & Eileen be coming back to Coronation Street? I hope they'll both be coming back. Until then, good luck to both of you & i hope to see you both back on Corrie very soon."
