‘Dealer’ is now in the elite list of a handful of shows that have been originally produced by Netflix in the French language. The first French-language original production for Netflix was ‘Marseille’ in 2015, which turned out to be a massive hit for the streamer. The success of ‘Marseille’ prompted the platform to churn out more shows like ‘Marianne’, ‘La Revolution’ and most recently, ‘Lupin’. The streaming giant would be hoping for ‘Dealer’ to hit the bull's eye and give them another reason to work on original shows in different languages.
The series will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix on March 10.
The show tells the story of a music producer who gets caught in a gang war between two groups. The official synopsis reads: “Franck, a music video director, infiltrates a rough neighborhood in the South of France to film Tony, a charismatic but unpredictable drug gang leader wanting to break into the rap music scene. Using his camera to reveal the hidden, true face of drug dealing, Franck will get caught in a bloody gang war.”
One of the prominent names in the French entertainment industry, Sebastien Houbani will be playing the role of Franck in the upcoming crime-thriller. In 2012, he starred in the short film 'La Tête froid' by Nicolas Mesdom, an interpretation which won him a prize at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and that of the best actor in a short film at the Cabourg Festival. ‘Stockholm’, ‘Rascal’, ‘Paper Flags’, and ‘All that Divides Us’ are some of the other projects he has worked in.
