'DC's Legends of Tomorrow': Could Hawkman and Hawkgirl return to the show in Season 6?

Now that 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' Season 5 is all set to wind up, that means we won't be getting any Arrowverse action for at least a year. However, the synopsis for 'Legends' Season 6 has already been revealed and it teases some interesting villains.

Except for 'Supergirl', the Arrowverse shows have mostly tried to steer clear of aliens but it looks Season 6 will see the Legends face off against a strange species of evil space aliens. The synopsis teases that these bizarre aliens are going to kidnap a Legend, making this a very personal mission for the team.

One possible storyline from the comics that could be adapted by the show is the Rann-Thanagar war, which brings us to Hawkman and Hawkgirl. The characters have been played on the show by Falk Hentschel and Ciara Renée respectively and they do have a connection to Thanagar, sort of.

In the Arrowverse, Hawkman and Hawkgirl get their powers due to exposure to a Thanagarian meteor. In the comics, their origins are even more convoluted.

Depending on who's writing the story, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are either reincarnated Egyptians (like on the show) or police officers from Thanagar. Either way, the characters have a strong connection to the alien race and in Season 1 it was teased that Thanagar would invade Earth in the far future.

For all we know, 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' may have moved up that invasion or made Hawkman and Hawkgirl into aliens. Pretty much anything is possible on this show after all, and executive producer Phil Klemmer had said in February that they still talk about bringing the two back on the show. Considering how beloved these characters are, Season 6 might be a great place to bring them back to the show.

Here's the synopsis for 'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 6: "Having spent last season trying to track down the Loom of Fate in order to bring back their slain comrades, the Legends must now save history from a foe like none they’ve encountered in the past or future. Co-captains of the time-ship Waverider Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) have dealt with monsters, time anomalies, and most recently, villains from Hell, but this season they will face something even more challenging and bizarre ... space aliens!

After one of their own is abducted by a ruthless alien, this new mission becomes personal. It will take more than the combined powers of a dark magician, John Constantine (Matt Ryan); a semi-reformed arsonist, Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell); historian who transforms into steel, Nate Heywood (Nick Zano); and a brother-sister wind-totem-wielding duo, Zara Tarazi (Tala Ashe) and Behrad Tarazi (Shayan Sobhian) to save the world for a sixth time.

They must recruit a new Legend, a woman who was abducted by aliens when she was a child and supposedly imbued with powers that will help the team defeat their intergalactic foes. Either that or she’s just crazy..."

'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' Season 5 will air its final episode 'Swan Thong' on June 2 at 9 pm ET on The CW.
