LONDON, ENGLAND: Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo transports audiences into a fantasy world where a dragon and a kingdom coexist in an uneasy harmony, bound by a pact made centuries ago.
Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown), a stunning woman, is wedded to the kingdom's prince and shortly discovers that she is a 'sacrifice' to the dragon (voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo) to repay an ancient debt.
The dark fantasy film starring Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, and Angela Bassett, premiered on Netflix on Friday, March 8.
Elodie goes back to the cave in 'Damsel'
Following her escape from the cave and the dragon's fury, Elodie is compelled to return to the depths as her stepmother, Lady Bayford (Angela Bassett), reveals Floria's (Brooke Carter) kidnapping by the royal family.
This time, Elodie is more prepared and determined as she is acquainted with the dangers and possible escape routes. Resourcefully utilizing the weapons and armor brought by her father and his men, Elodie strategically captures the dragon's attention, diverting it from Floria.
She then finds Floria, and Dragon reappears before the two sisters escape.
Elodie attacks the Dragon in 'Damsel'
In a fierce battle, Elodie confronts the dragon and reveals the truth. However, the Dragon doesn't believe her due to the lingering scent of her 'royal' blood. The confrontation escalates into a violent clash, resulting in injuries for Elodie and the dragon.
While the dragon asks Elodie to accept her fate of dying alone, she discovers a way to injure the dragon through her flame. Ultimately, Elodie defeats the dragon.
As the dragon gasps for final breaths, Elodie shows her wounded palm and tells her how the royal family has been fooling her for decades.
Dragon avenges the killings of her daughters
Upon realizing that she has been killing innocent daughters, just like her own daughters were killed, the dragon pleads with Elodie to kill her.
However, Elodie chooses mercy, sparing the dragon's life. She mends the dragon's wounds with the assistance of glowworms, offering her a chance at redemption.
Elodie then appears at the palace, where Henry is marrying the girl who is meant to be the third sacrifice.
Elodie issues a warning to the girl, urging her to escape with her family. The Dragon then appears and spits fire that burns down the entire kingdom and takes the lives of the King, Queen, and Prince.
