Covid in K-pop: BTS’ Jimin becomes the latest idol to fall sick, fans worried
BTS’ Jimin has become the 39th K-pop idol to get Covid-19 in the last two weeks. The new Omicron strain is wreaking havoc as the world has not yet considered it lethal enough to implement strict social distancing guidelines. K-pop acts, in fact, have gone to the extent of holding world tours and concerts. Idols have continued with their gigs in crowded places and unfortunately, that has backfired.
The outbreak in K-pop began on January 19 when three EPEX members tested positive for Covid-19. In the next 10 days, 30 idols ended up getting the virus. Five out of six iKON members, half of The Boyz, WEi, Treasure and all of Viviz members have ended up falling sick because of Covid-19. It was announced that nine idols tested positive in the last 24 hours and that has worried fans who are asking agencies to cancel artists’ schedules that are being planned in crowded places.
