Comic-Con 2020: Why 'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 6 needs to go back and refocus on the horror element

The lack of horror has one of the reasons for the steep dip in ratings and fanbase along with insignificant plot points, the absence of CRM and a slow-paced narrative

'Fear the Walking Dead' is rated 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is quite close in comparison to 'The Walking Dead' which after ten seasons has an aggregated rating of 81%. Over the course of ten seasons of 'The Walking Dead', the show has had lean phases in terms of the plotline and this was a problem that was seen even in Season 5 of 'Fear The Walking Dead' which ended the season with mixed reviews. It had an average rating of 55%  One of the biggest complaints from fans was the horror the element that's declined by the season.

At some point, it honestly feels like the thrills and the shrieks have gone missing. The radioactive zombie concept was promising, but the aftermath was the impact it had on one of the characters, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), and while we can still pass that off as part scary, the rest of the plotline served as a dampener. The zombies were in fact the real enemies and the immediate threat, however, in the spin-off it seems to have moved on.

This means that the layered conflict that is missing from the show has been one of the reasons for the steep dip in ratings and fanbase along with insignificant plot points (The absence of CRM) and a slow-paced narrative. This just means 'Fear The Walking Dead' needs to do what it does best— go back to basics. The whole essence of the AMC series was to create a story of survivors fending off zombies in a post-apocalyptic world and more of that blood and gore is needed to get the series back on track.

With Comic-con @ Home 2020 coming up, fans will be eager to have a major chunk of questions answered and the hope for 'FWD' creators to see if they can get the series to regain its former glory. If so, this would mean a good Season 6 that would learn from the mistakes of its predecessor. The panel moderated by Chris Hardwick features cast, Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Karen David, Jenna Elfman, and Rubén Blades along with TWDU chief content officer Scott M Gimple and EPs Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg.

What are your thoughts on 'Fear the Walking Dead' going back to its roots in Season 6?

'Comic-Con @ Home 2020 is scheduled between July 22-26.
