'Cobra Kai' renewed for season 3: Release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know about the martial arts dramedy

YouTube premium, the streaming service, has also announced that the third season will no longer require a paid subscription to watch.

It was just a matter of time before 'Cobra Kai' came back with season 3. The only surprise was the time that was taken to announce that runaway hit would be back on YouTube Premium.  The streaming service announced that the 30-minute show will be back in September 2020 and here's the best part - no more paid subscription needed to access the show.

The streaming service announced Thursday that the half-hour martial arts dramedy will be back for a third season in 2020. Here's what we know about season 3 so far.

Release date:

Johnny Lawrence will be back. The series is slated for a September 2020 release.

Will Johnny (William Zabka) claim his dojo back in Season 3? (IMDb)

Plot:

It looks like the story will pick up from where it left. A distraught Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) leaves the dojo and by the looks of it, the Valley as well. Season 2 ends quite badly for most of the characters except Kreese (Martin Kove). The 'bad sensei' gains control of the Cobra Kai dojo, while Miguel (Xolo Mariduena) after his brawl with Robby (Tanner Buchanan) is shown to be in a critical stage. Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Samantha (Mary Mouser), his daughter, contemplate on the future of the Miyagi- Do Karate.

Now, while that potentially is the last few minutes of 'Cobra Kai: Season 2,'  it does leave questions. First up, what will become of Miguel? Will he recover? If he does, will it pave way for another showdown with Robby? Next question would be on Sam and Tory (Peyton List). Will these events bring the two together making them bury the hatchet?

Just like the introduction of John Kreese at the end of season 1, we see the return of Ali Mills (Elizabeth Shue) who was Johnny's ex-girlfriend before sharing a romantic relationship with Daniel in 'The Karate Kid' (1984). Will her presence cause more trouble for Johnny or Daniel?

Cast:

Most of the characters will be back in the upcoming season unless the creators feel the need to change up things a bit, which is most unlikely. William Zabka and Ralph Macchio will be back as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, the main protagonists while Miguel, Tory, Sam and Robby played by Xolo Mariduena, Peyton List, Mary Mouser, and Tanner Buchanan respectively are slated to come back as well.

Courtney Henggeler will portray Amanda, Daniel's wife.  John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Ali Mills Schwarber (Elizabeth Shue) too will be back after her introduction at the fag end of the second season.

Director/ Writer:

John Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald will helm the third season again.

Trailer:

While there is no official footage from the third season yet and given that it is set for a 2020 release, early glimpses will take some time.
