It looks like Blackjacks (2NE1’s fandom) know 2NE1 pretty well. When K-pop soloist CL was announced as a surprise guest 24 hours before Coachella 2022, fans scrambled to get tickets while antis joked that there would be no audience. However, there were a few fans who wondered if she would be pulling a ‘MAMA 2015’ at Coachella. CL was the leader of 2NE1, one of the biggest girl groups in the 2010s. While on hiatus and on the verge of disbanding, she gifted fans one last surprise by getting all of 2NE1 to perform with her at MAMA, one of the biggest K-pop award shows in 2015.

All fans agree that CL is the best leader as she decided to invite 2NE1 for her solo stage at Coachella 2022. April 16 was arguably the best night for K-pop as we first had Jackson Wang from GOT7 becoming the first K-pop male idol and the first Chinese male soloist to perform on the Coachella main stage. In the same segment, CL was supposed to come and perform her solo songs but instead, we got the iconic hit ‘I’m The Best’ by 2NE1 themselves which became the highlight of the night. It looks like history does repeat itself.

2NE1 reunites thanks to CL at Coachella

Fans present at Coachella or online lost their minds as they got the signature 2NE1 look of Dara’s crazy mohawk, Bom’s mini dress, Minzy’s short hair and CL’s bodysuit. Tender moments where CL and Minzy assured Bom who has voiced her anxiety about performing in front of large crowds touched fans. Many also found it amusing and endearing as Dara lost her shoe which went flying into the crowd as she gave her all. Hours after the performance, it was reported that it was CL who decided to forgo her solo stage and suggested a 2NE1 reunion at Coachella 2022.

CL personally shared that it was true as she took to Instagram to write a lengthy post for 2NE1 and her fans. She shared that she was grateful for the opportunities that had come her way. The K-pop idol explained, “When I was invited to Coachella, I really wanted to invite the members to this event because I wanted to gather 2NE1 with our own strength before it was too late.” She added that the reunion was very meaningful to her and “through this stage, I would like to say hello to everyone who has supported and been with us until now, and I want to say thank you to those who have loved and spent time with 2NE1 over the past 13 years.”

‘Born to be on stage’

Fans were touched as they made tweets like, “Bom performing despite her anxiety for a crowd minzy cutting her hair dara kicking her shoe out hard because she is giving it all Cl pulling another MAMA again like she did before after disbandment they will always be their for each other.they will always be queens 4ever.” Another fan posted, “CL REALLY PULLED A MAMA 2015 ON COACHELLA 2022. 2NE1 ON COACHELLA YALL!!!!”

One Blackjack added, “Idk about ya'll but 2NE1 is the first ever disbanded kpop group who performs at couchella and that is so iconic. YG must be choking right now for disbanding them knowing that even after 6 years have passed 2NE1 will always make an impact. Indeed a legendary behavior.” Another fan shared, “You know what makes the 2NE1 performance better? Knowing these girls are no longer bound to a contract. They perform because they want to and honestly, they are born to be onstage. No one is literally doing it like them, they are and will always be the baddest btches.”
