'Christina on the Coast' Season 3: Jenny and Anthony's dark and brown home gets a bright and airy makeover
Christina Anstead is back for Season 3 of her show 'Christina on the Coast' on HGTV. The show sees her tackling her personal and professional journey. In the premiere episode, Christina said she loves helping people create new spaces for them to spend time with their families. "There is something beautiful about reinventing someone's world and so far I am loving the ride," she added. Christina had just given birth to her third baby, Hudson, while this season was shot and the episode caught her in her element, tending to her son while also speaking with her contractor over the phone. Taking care of three kids as well as getting back to work was surely a chaotic experience but she was ready to take both her jobs head-on.
Her new clients Jenny and Anthony were also parents to three children. The biggest need of the hour for them was a functional kitchen. One of the drawers in their kitchen was rendered completely useless. Making use of it to store any supplies meant a danger of flipping over the dishwasher that lied right below it. Also, standing in the kitchen was an open shelf that displayed all of Anthony's barware and hard liquor. The designing of their kitchen and the rest of the house was done 10 years ago when brown tones were still in and the couple needed to upgrade the outdated look. Apart from that they also needed their misplaced fireplace to be taken care of. It was placed right next to the entrance and the frame lining the structure was a trip hazard, which according to Anthony has injured one too many unsuspecting relatives in the past.
Jenny's wishlist included a fresh and bright look to the kitchen along with open shelving and lighter countertops. She wanted something styled like a modern farmhouse but at the same time not too modern. Anthony on the other hand wanted a look that depicted a New York loft with a little bit of industrial flair. Their budget for this whole renovation was $60k and while Anthony was clear that he'd be happy if they could get the work done in that budget, Jenny was ready to be a little generous if it was spent on something that would bring a unique look to their house.
Christina had a plan ready for them where she pictured everything bright, airy and open. The first step was to get rid of the fireplace and the trip hazard. In the kitchen, she planned to get rid of the peninsula and replace it with a central island with an overhang. Her plan also included shifting the dishwasher to another part of the kitchen so that they could access the drawers without the fear of flipping the dishwasher. She also wanted to bring in a counter refrigerator so that there could be additional space in the kitchen. A floor change was also a part of her plan and so was figuring out how to upgrade Anthony's man-corner for which she solicited the help of her Brit husband Ant Anstead.
To watch the entire renovation, tune in to the rerun of this episode on August 7 at 12 am ET. 'Christina on the Coast' airs every Thursday at 9 pm ET only on HGTV.
