‘Euphoria’ composer Labrinth drops bombshell announcement ahead of Season 3 release: ‘I’m done with…’
British artist Labrinth is entering a new phase in his career. The 37-year-old made a shocking announcement on social media that has left fans and the music industry wondering what's going on.
The singer-songwriter said he is leaving the industry and singled out his record label, Columbia Records, and HBO’s 'Euphoria' in a message full of expletives. "I’m done with this industry. F–k Columbia. Double f–k ‘Euphoria.’ I’m out. Thank you and good night x," he said without giving any further explanation. His statement suggests a possible contractual dispute or creative differences, but it's difficult to know for sure without official comments from any of the parties involved. As of this writing, neither Columbia nor the team behind 'Euphoria' has reacted to his announcement.
Born Timothy Lee McKenzie, the record producer composed the score for Season 1 of 'Euphoria,' which debuted on HBO in 2019. Labrinth's original songs, such as 'Mount Everest' and 'All for Us', were featured in the series, with Zendaya lending her vocals to the latter.
His music was well-received and earned him two nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2020. Furthermore, he was nominated for 'Outstanding Music Composition for a Series' for the episode titled '03 Bonnie and Clyde' from Season 1 and' Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics' for the song 'All for Us,' and won in the latter category.
Additionally, he was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for 'Best Television Soundtrack' for the HBO series that year. In 2022, Labrinth was again nominated for his work on the show's second season, for the songs 'I'm Tired' and 'Elliot's Song,' both of which he co-wrote with Zendaya. Furthermore, he has composed the music for the third season of 'Euphoria,' alongside the celebrated German composer, Hans Zimmer. Season 3 of the hit HBO drama is set to drop on April 12.
Labrinth signed on to Columbia Records in November 2019, weeks before the release of his second album, 'Imagination & the Misfit Kid.' He went on to release two studio albums with the record label: 'Ends & Begins' in April 2023 and 'Cosmic Opera: Act ' in January 2026.
The soundtracks for 'Euphoria's second season' and the Netflix film 'The Kitchen' (2024) were also released under this label. Additionally, Labrinth is a member of the supergroup 'LSD' with Sia and DJ Diplo. The music group released only one studio album, 'Labrinth, Sia & Diplo Present... LSD in 2019 under Columbia.
