From Robby’s sabbatical to Langdon’s future: 5 big questions ‘The Pitt’ must answer before Season 2 ends
Very few shows actually manage to live up to the expectations set by their debut season, and 'The Pitt' is most definitely one of them. As Season 2 of the R. Scott Gemmill show rapidly moves forward towards its impending finale, several unanswered questions are looming on the horizon.
From Dr. Robby's future as a physician to the mysterious hints at Dr. Al-Hashimi's past trauma, here is our list of the five burning questions that the HBO Max medical drama show needs to answer.
1) What's eating Dr. Al-Hashimi?
Being a new addition to the cast on the sophomore season, Sepideh Moafi's Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi is portrayed as a foil to Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby. As opposed to the traditional medicine man approach of the latter, Al-Hashimi is hands-on and appreciative of modern technology, such as the use of generative AI in healthcare.
However, her sense of command was disrupted first when she was seen gazing blankly down at Baby Jane Doe, the abandoned infant, during the season premiere. When asked about that moment in an interview with TVLine, Moafi noted, "The answer to that question is rooted in a huge spoiler, so I can't say much, but I will say that there is a story behind that moment. And we'll learn more throughout the season."
Moreover, there was also the time when she boxed herself inside a restroom and called the Pittsburgh Neuroscience Group as a patient, indicating that she might be undergoing treatment for trauma suffered during her overseas deployment, as recognized by Dr. Abbott. It remains to be seen whether Al-Hashimi's past trauma will be depicted in detail in the upcoming episodes.
2) Will Dr. Robby return from his sabbatical?
Throughout the season, Dr. Robby has been looking forward to his three-month sabbatical, during which he plans to undertake a motorcycle tour of North America. This seems to be a good idea for a busy doctor like himself to avoid burnout, except that neither Dana nor Dr. Abbott truly believes Dr. Robby's sabbatical will last three months.
The question that naturally arises is whether he shall return to the ER at all? We remember him telling Whitaker about house-sitting for him, and in the eventuality that he doesn't return, everything that belongs to him will be Whitaker's. Scott Gemmill revealed, "I think there's a part of Robby that has a contingency plan that he might not come back, I think it's a legitimate concern. And I think Robby knows that himself."
3) Will Dr. Langdon survive the PTMC?
Dr. Langdon is a changed man in the second season, after giving up his addiction and entering rehab. He tries his best to apologize to Dr. Robby and the others for his past behaviour.
Although Dr. Robby finally acknowledges that he's happy for Dr. Langdon's recovery, he insists he doesn't want the latter in his ER. This further causes Dr. Langdon considerable consternation. With his name already smeared, we wonder whether Dr. Langdon will be able to complete his residency at the PTMC.
4) What lies ahead for Dr. Mohan?
Dr. Samira Mohan had previously told Dr. Cassie McKay that she hoped to relocate to New Jersey to stay with her mother and then base her residency plans around her. However, a sudden change of plans caused her mother to go on a world tour with a man she barely knew.
Having reached a critical crossroads in her life, Dr. Mohan now wonders what the future holds for her and her residency plans. Although Dr. Al-Hashimi advised her to explore geriatric medicine, the jury is still out on Dr. Mohan's future.
5) Will Javadi remain in the ER?
Lastly, the prodigious student doctor Javadi is well respected in the ER until she almost causes the death of her patient in the ongoing season. After being spoken down to by surgeon Dr. Garcia and termed a 'nepo baby', Javadi is unsure if she'll be able to go the distance in the ER.
For the record, both her parents are doctors, and her mother wants her to opt for surgery, while her father recently introduced her to a colleague, hoping she will consider dermatology. All episodes of 'The Pitt' are available on HBO.
