'The Pitt' Season 2 Episode 10 recap: Roxie's death hits hard as ER struggles after waterslide accident
'The Pitt' Season 2 returned on March 12 with a brand new episode that kept everyone on edge. The waterslide accident at the end of Episode 9 threatened to push the ER at PTMC beyond its limits with an influx of incoming patients. That's exactly what happened in Episode 10, titled '4:00 P.M.' While the ER staff nears breaking point as they struggle to treat new patients, one of Season 2's most emotional storylines involving McKay's patient, Roxie, takes a turn.
Hospice patient Roxie, who has advanced lung cancer, tugged at viewers' heartstrings in Season 2. In an earlier episode, Robby approved increasing her morphine drip to ease her pain, aware that it would lead to her death sooner. Roxie accepts that her end is near, but her husband, Paul, and sons, Tucker and Shane, struggle to say goodbye. In the end, McKay increases Roxie’s morphine one last time, and she passes away peacefully, leaving her family heartbroken. Roxie's worsening situation cuts deep for Victoria, as it reminds her to mend her broken relationship with her own mother, Shamzi, and not take their time together for granted. But when she tries to reconnect with Shamzi, her mother criticizes her professional mistakes rather than accepting her attempt to bond with her.
Episode 10 of the medical drama series also sees victims from the waterslide accident being rushed into the ER. Robby and Ogilvie step in to assist a female patient whose leg has been completely severed. As the ER team stabilizes her, she notices her amputated leg getting cleaned by Ogilvie and Whitaker, and realizes what has happened to her. She breaks down, pleading with the doctors to reattach her limb. The orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Brendon Park, approves the replantation surgery, which is one of the trickiest procedures in trauma medicine.
Elsewhere, things get heated between Santos and Langdon as they treat Derek, a patient who complains of chest pain. The two disagree on how to relieve the pressure in his chest, with Santos suggesting a chest tube and Langdon wanting to use a Thoravent. When Baran sides with Langdon, Santos takes it personally. She gets even more offended after misinterpreting a teaching moment from Langdon as a personal dig, forcing Garcia to step in and remind Santos to act professionally.
Furthermore, the emotional stress and work pressure get to Samira in 'The Pitt' Season 2 Episode 10. As patients start flooding the waiting room, Dana asks Samira to help the growing crowd with answers about delays. But people immediately crowd around her, causing Samira to start sweating and experience heart palpitations. Her situation gets worse rapidly, but Joy and Langdon come to her rescue. Langdon checks her vitals, fearing a heart attack. Soon after, Robby learns that she was having a panic attack, brought on by severe anxiety and the unresolved stress related to her mother.
