'Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair' trailer promises chaos as Frankie Muniz reunites with family
The official trailer for 'Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair' opens with Malcolm saying, "Yeah, I look different. But hey, everything about me is different." However, one thing remains the same: he is still complaining about his family 20 years later. The revival was officially announced in December 2024 and is created by Linwood Boomer, who also created the original series. It is a reboot of the Fox series 'Malcolm in the Middle,' which ran between 2000 and 2006. The trailer, released on March 12, shares the first glimpse of the dysfunctional Wilkerson family, with most of the original cast members returning alongside new faces. The miniseries features only four episodes, all directed by Ken Kwapis, and will drop on April 10 on Disney+ and Hulu.
The trailer of 'Life's Still Unfair' reveals that Malcolm has distanced himself from his family and now lives happily with his daughter, Leah, and girlfriend Tristan. However, things take a turn when he is forced to attend his parents Hal and Lois' 40th wedding anniversary party. Spending some time with them at this reunion soon has him screaming, "This family's non-stop antisocial behavior and mindless myopic priorities are toxic to me." The show is sure to make for an entertaining watch as Malcolm introduces his new family to his parents and siblings for the first time, with chaos bound to ensue.
The reboot series will feature Bryan Cranston returning as Hal, with Jane Kaczmarek playing his wife, Lois. Christopher Masterson reprises his role as Francis, while Emy Coligado appears as Francis's wife, Piama; Justin Berfield as Reese; and Frankie Muniz as the genius middle child, Malcolm. Kiana Madeira plays Malcolm's girlfriend, Tristan, while Keeley Karsten plays his daughter, Leah. Moreover, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will take over the role of Dewey from Erik Per Sullivan, who played him in the original series. Anthony Timpano will star as Jamie, while Vaughan Murrae will play Kelly, the family's youngest child and only daughter.
Muniz, now 40, exclusively told People in December 2025 that he was excited to return but didn't know what to expect. "When I was doing Malcolm 20 years ago, I was a kid. So I didn't know what it was gonna be like [to return] – if it was going to be easy to be Malcolm, if it was gonna be awkward back with the cast. And not to sound like cliché, but it was as if not a single day went by." He added that filming the revival was "probably one of the best times I've ever had on a set," saying that he was happy to call himself an actor by the end of it. 'Malcolm in the Middle' premiered in January 2000 on Fox and ran for seven seasons with 151 episodes until the season finale in May 2006. Muniz left his rising career in acting to become a professional race car driver, and fans are now eager to see him in action again.
