'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' Part 4 will be demonic version of 'The Crown' inspired by Lovecraft: Creator
This article contains spoilers for the 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' Part 1 - Part 3
Part 3 of the 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' released on January 24, and with it came shock waves and the intense anticipation for Part 4. The series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased a few details about Part 4 which is currently being filmed. He spoke of the merging of elements from another Netflix show and the works of a horror author. While the first two parts of the series focused on Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) struggle between being a Spellman and a Morningstar, Part 3 had her make her choice — although not a good one.
In Part 3, she is on a quest to sustain the Unholy Regalia so she can claim her blood right on the Throne of Hell. Unfortunately, amid her battle to rule the fiery realm, she has to deal with Pagans, her father — Lucifer the Dark Lord and Prince Caliban of Hell's challenge to her queenship. In the end, she manages to win — now keeping the throne warm as a Morningstar and living the cheerleader life as a Spellman and she's owed a cosmic debt.
Sacasa teases Part 4 elements to be similar to that of the Netflix series 'The Crown' along with a wee bit of horror author HP Lovecraft's work. He said to TheWrap, "I think one of the things that's really fun in Part 4 is we play a little bit like a demonic version of 'The Crown', with a lot of palace intrigue and a lot of jockeying for power between Lucifer and Madam Satan/Lilith and Sabrina."
"So that’s something we explore. But the power struggle is mainly between Lilith and Lucifer. And that’s kind of their big story even from the beginning of the series, this idea of power between the two of them. And Sabrina is caught in the middle of it, and now Satan's unborn baby is part of that as well," the showrunner continued.
Part 3 also saw a few elements teasing the genius of Lovecraft's pieces with the inclusion of the Old Gods and Eldritch Terrors in the narrative.
"One of my favorite horror writers is HP Lovecraft, and there's a definite HP Lovecraft vibe to Part 4. And we're taking very, very old primal ideas of horror and fear and unleashing them on Sabrina, on the Spellmans and on Greendale. And Greendale becomes a battleground for this really epic battle between evil and good and horror and sanity and it’s huge, it’s big," said Sacasa.
With Father Blackwood's drudgery left on the forgotten minds of vulnerable teenagers, he has unleased another terror bringing back his vital need to be feared so he can dominate. Sacasa explained this saying, "At the end of the season, Father Blackwood says he's unleashed the 'Eldritch Terrors' and those are kind of our threats in Part 4, so each episode has a Big Bad that represents this primal terror, this primal fear. So we see Blackwood ascend a little bit more again to the level he was around Season 1 as a threat, because of what he's unleashed."
We suspect that Part 4 of the hellish series will premiere later this year, hopefully around Halloween. The official date is yet to be released. Stay tuned for updates.
