'Chicago PD' Season 8 Episode 4: Is Upstead already in trouble? Fans say Halstead is 'just looking out' for Upton

Halstead wanted to help Upton only because he knows what her situation feels like because he went through the same with his father

Spoilers for 'Chicago PD' Season 8 Episode 4

The start of the episode sees Hailey Upton's (Tracy Spiridakos) father collapsed, but while she and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) were on their way to Med, they get a call about the homicide of what was later discovered to be a cop named Mike Blaine. While Halstead asked Upton if she was going to meet her father, she said she was going to do it later.

As the case proceeded, it seemed very clear that Upton was hesitant to meet her father and so Halstead tells her that should anything happen to him, and she doesn't visit him, she might regret it. "Don't do it for him," he said, "do it for you."

Later in the episode when the duo was interrogating one of their later released suspects, Zach, Halstead was telling the suspect that sometimes some people who make mistakes are still good people. Upton felt like Halstead was talking about her and a small argument ensued. Halstead told Upton that he knows what her father did and how abusive he was, but Upton insisted that he didn't know half of it and that she doesn't need Halstead's help with this one.

Fans emphasized with Halstead. "Yeah, I figured that was the speech Jay would give. He still feels guilty about how he left things with his dad. Not quite the same sitch though, so I hope he doesn't push or this'll be a super short honeymoon. #OneChicago #ChicagoPD," wrote one fan. Fans were also happy that the duo's family storyline seems to be colliding.

One fan wrote, "I absolutely love how haileys situation w her dad is mirroring what jay went through losing his. it’s giving them some angst but once again, all out of love. jay’s just looking out for her bc he knows how it feels. #chicagopd." Fans were really hurt for Halstead as well. "I bet Jay is thinking about how was his relationship w his dad, it might be a rough time #ChicagoPD," wrote another fan.

It was clear that Upton was pushing Halstead away, with one fan writing, "So much for Hailey not getting upset at Jay, her mind is diverted and she is mixing their case with what's happening with her dad. Don't go there Hailey! Let Jay help you through this. #ChicagoPD #Upstead."

Another added, "I'm just saying that Hailey should listen to Jay regarding her dad's situation. Jay has already been through (I know different situations), but he knows what it is like not being able to fix things with his father #ChicagoPD."

Halstead wanted to help Upton only because he knows what the situation feels like, because he went through it with his father. "All this stuff with Hailey’s dad probably reminds Halstead of his dad and he doesn’t want Hailey to make the same regrets he did and that is the sweetest! #ChicagoPD #OneChiacgo," wrote another fan.
