Lt Kelly Severide may not be at the office of fire investigations anymore on 'Chicago Fire', but that does not mean the firefighter has retired from his investigative skills. In fact, he has even taken on a sidekick in this week's episode to finally get rid of a thorn in Firehouse 51's back — Assistant Deputy Commissioner Jerry Gorsch.

Gorsch is back in this week's episode to ask for some help from Chief Boden. He tells Boden that he appreciates the cancer safety plan that Boden is implementing and even admits to sending the new firetruck their way as a peace offering.

Later, Gorsch admits that he wants Boden and Severide to sign off on a purchase order for fire safety gear with Commissioner Grissom — and another fire chief also backs his claim. However, the second fire chief tells Severide that the purchase order for the fire safety gear was approved, but the proposed company never received the order.

Severide and Boden confront Gorsch, but the latter tells them that he found a better company at a cheaper cost. However, Severide does some digging and gets rookie Darren Ritter to do some online sleuthing for him.

The two uncover that Gorsh gave the order to a company owned by his high school friend, and worse, their fire gear was never tested nor approved. Severide also gets some help from CPD who learned that Gorsch was getting paid through this particular contract. Boden and Severide take this information to the City Councilwoman, Laura Martin, who promptly fires him.

Fans were proud of Severide after his sleuthing skills helped get rid of a long time antagonist of 'Chicago Fire'.  One fan tweeted, "Severide has great instincts. He's great at knowing when something isn't right and figuring out what's really going on." Another fan wrote, "Ritter good job finding out Gorsch was up to! Severide thanks for trusting your gut!"

One fan tweeted, "That quick turn around from Chief Boden & Severide. Grosch your fired. Chief Boden with that Big Smile he had after the man got fired is content I like to see."

One fan also referred to Leslie Shay — who died in a previous season and was Severide's best friend and roommate — writing, "Shay would be impressed with how much Severide has grown in his life. #MoreSeveride."

'Chicago Fire' airs at 9/8 c on Wednesdays on NBC.
