'Charmed' Season 2 Episode 9 sees the return of Maggie and Mel's father and it looks like he's here to stay
'Charmed' is back after its winter break for the second season and the episode saw one of the show's characters return from the dead -- or rather, reveal he was never dead after all. When Maggie Vera (Sarah Jeffrey) gets a vision of a motel and one of the Darklighter's visions, Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans), Maggie, and her sister Mel (Melonie Diaz) go in search of the Darklighter, while their other sister Macy Vaughn (Madeleine Mantock) chooses to sit the mission out since she doesn't want the Darklighter in her head again.
When they get to the motel, the mystery person Maggie saw in her visions turns out to be her and Mel's dad -- the one whose funeral she went to earlier in the season. Turns out, Papa Vera is not just an archaeology professor, he is also a thief who sells ancient relics on the black market, and somehow he came into possession of the Darklighter's weapon.
When a dark figure comes in pursuit of Santiago Ray Vera, Harry knocks him out and all four of them orb back to the Vera household, where Maggie and Mel start to reveal the truth about themselves and their mother to him -- in order to get him to reveal how he came into possession of the weapon. Papa Vera says that he went to the remains of the house after it supposedly burned and came across the weapon there. Harry figures that Papa Vera is being tracked because of something in his possession and comes across a box.
When Maggie and Mel perform a revealing spell, a stone comes out. When Papa Vera picks it up, its magic is activated and it interferes with the house's cloaking spell, meaning the house isn't hidden anymore. Harry and Mel then do research on what the stone is and realize that it is a protection stone that clings to its thief. And the masked man pursuing Papa Vera is no human -- it is the Fury, the stone's guardian.
The Fury shows up at the Vera household, but the sisters' magic is useless as the Fury keeps replicating every time it is attacked. Then Papa Vera steps in and gives the stone back to the Fury, which fixes the house's cloaking spell.
For now, it looks like Papa Vera will stay, though whether that might be a good or bad thing, we don't know. It might help for the sisters to have a parental figure around, but in this case, the sisters are more the parental figures.
'Charmed' airs on The CW on Friday nights.
