Ilhoon fans happy after Changsub mentions him as BTOB 4U’s ‘Outsider’ hits 10M views

Ilhoon has been jailed for smoking marijuana and Changsub mentioning him was considered a faux pas, but fans aren't bothered

With BTOB being active in the K-pop industry for almost ten years there are bound to be some ups and downs. But the group and their fandom Melody have a strong bond that has allowed them to emerge strong. And while Ilhoon had to leave the group and two of the members are still in the military, BTOB 4U is still making waves with the survival show ‘Kingdom’ and ‘Outsider’.

The group created the sub-unit BTOB 4U to operate with the active members - Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Changsub and Peniel. They wowed Melodies with a completely new side to them as they did intense choreography with fourth-gen groups like Stray Kids and Ateez, performed rock songs and showed their athletic side on the survival show ‘Kingdom’. And now they’re back with their second EP ‘4U: Outside’ and the lead single ‘Outsider’.

‘Outsider’ hits 10M Youtube views

It should also be noted that members Minhyuk, Peniel and Hyunsik have participated in the making of the album. And ‘Outsider’s cinematic music video crossed the 10 million mark in four days and is currently at 11.3M YouTube views. It also debuted at #1 on Bugs and entered Genie and MelOn's charts. On the first day of its release, it was also #29 on the Worldwide iTunes Song chart and the album was #1 on the iTunes Album chart in 12 countries.

Changsub mentions Ilhoon

Originally a seven-member group, Ilhoon was made to leave at the end of 2020 when he was charged with purchasing and smoking marijuana. And while this seems odd in the West where the act of smoking marijuana is mostly legalized, South Korea still considers it a crime. And unfortunately, Ilhoon was sentenced to two years of prison. Ilhoon's fans all over the world were heartbroken by this decision. But Changsub might have given us some OT7 crumbs.

While promoting ‘Outsider’ on music shows, BTOB 4U had a mini-interview on ‘Music Bank’ before their performance on September 3. When asked to say some words for Sungjae and Hyunsik, the members in the military, Changsub unintentionally mentioned Ilhoon. He said, “Sungjae, Ilhoon...You still have a long way to go. I’ll see you when you return.” As the camera zoomed in on his face immediately, we only caught a glimpse of Minhyuk whose eyes turned big as he was surprised.

Eunkwang tried to cover it up by adding that they loved Sungjae and Hyunsik while Changsub was seen asking what he had said. While many netizens and new fans reacted by saying it was an honest mistake and that everyone must have been flustered, some believe that Changsub said the Korean word for “wake up” which sounds similar to Ilhoon. But regardless, OT7 fans are celebrating.

K-pop’s doppelgangers Minhyuk and TXT’s Soobin meet

And it looks like ‘Music Bank’ was pretty eventful, because other than Changsub’s answer we also got one of K-pop’s doppelgangers. TXT’s Soobin who is an MC at ‘Music Bank’ looks like Minhyuk and the two even seem to agree. According to German myths, if you meet your doppelganger, you end up dying. And so Minhyuk and Soobin played on that by joking that they risked their lives to take selfies together at 'Music Bank' after the interview.

'All in one day!!'

Melody Twitter was in chaos due to so many things happening. With 'Outsider' reaching 10 million views, fans tweeted, “What BTOB                What Melody gave Melody               gave BTOB.” One fanbase joked, “Bestie we're going to retire now.” Another added, “WE WILL GIVE U OUR BEST Plese wait.” One said, “Ilhoon crumbs, minhyuk with soobin, btob with wendy, and btob with young k all in one day!! MY HEART IS SO HAPPY PLS.” Fans also wanted more interactions between Minhyuk and Soobin, “IMAGINE THEM PLAYING TWO TWIN BROTHERS IN A DRAMA, ONE NICE AND ONE EVIL?!!!!????? MANIFESTING,” and “At this point we need a collab or some kind of project with them together! Omg how about like them two camping together, like a healing miniseries! Or them trying out each other’s hobbies?!”

A fan explained why it wasn’t a big deal even if Changsub had mentioned Ilhoon, “People need to get over it, they are treating Ilhoon like he murdered someone, I know what he did wrong but everyone makes mistakes and the members won't forget their friend so easily he was with them for years.”

One posted, “This situation is bitter and funny at the same time. Eunkwang panic, peniel smile and seems didn't realize anything wrong, minhyuk surprised and hold back laughter and then changsub still confused and didn't realize that he mentioned ilhoon instead of hyunsik.”

One fan reasoned that Minhyuk wouldn’t have been shocked and Eunkwang wouldn’t have to fix the situation if Changsub would have said “wake up” in Korean instead of Ilhoon, “Yall can say whatever you want but changsub said it no he didnt say 일어나 (wake up) he said the exactly how ilhoon's name pronounced. its 일훈아 he clearly said it. the face minhyuk made after cs said explained it well dont you think:) he was there he always is.”
