CBS greenlights spinoff 'Clarice' that will follow Clarice Starling after the events portrayed in the 'Silence of the Lambs.' The series is set in the year 1993, one year after the events that occurred in the 'Silence of the Lambs'.

The film will tell the personal story of Starling as she investigates serial murderers and sexual predators in the political capital of Washington, DC.

The actress for the role of Clarice Starling was made famous by Jodie Foster after she excellently portrayed Starling in 1991. The actress who would play Starling in the spinoff is yet to be announced.

The network announced that it has handed out a series commitment to the spinoff, on Sunday, at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. The series is a co-production with MGM TV and CBS TV Studios and creators and writers include Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet.

"After more than 20 years of silence, we're privileged to give voice to one of America's most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling. Clarice's bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark," Kurtzman and Lumet said in a shared statement on CBS' order of Clarice.

"But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always," the statement added.

Jodie Foster portrayed FBI agent, Clarice Starling, in the 1991 movie adaptation of Thomas Harris' 1988 novel 'The Silence of the Lambs'. The character was first introduced in Harris' novel and was also part of Harris' novel, titled 'Hannibal'.

Starling was also seen in 2001's 'Hannibal', where the character was portrayed by Julianne Moore.

Bryan Fuller, the man behind the 'Hannibal' series earlier revealed that he wanted to bring back Clarice's character into the show, but this was canceled.

The character was also said to have a show focused just on her under Lifetime and MGM in 2012 but that did not happen come to fruition. There have been attempts to bring the character on screen, and with CBS ordering Clarice Starling's very own series, it's finally a reality.
