Burning Sun: Fans continue to defend Seungri despite his admission of guilt
The Burning Sun Scandal will be known as one of the greatest controversies to emerge from the Korean Entertainment Industry. Years after the initial news of the scandal broke out, the victims seemed to have gotten some justice. Former member of BIGBANG, Seungri, someone who was allegedly considered as the key suspect in the trial, was charged with a sentence of three years back in August of 2021.
But only months after Seungri was charged with three years in prison, it was reported that the former K-pop idol had received the opportunity to have his sentence reduced by half from the three years in prison to one year and six months in jail. According to a Naver report, the sentence was to be reduced if Seungri admitted to all 9 counts in lieu of his initial admission of violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.

Fans find Seungri’s admission of guilt ‘fishy’
Now Seungri is reportedly being called the ‘disgraced K-pop idol’ since his admission of guilt for all of the nine counts he was accused with. His initial three-year sentence has been also been reduced, as promised, to one and a half years. Ever since the news of Seungri’s admission was released on January 31, fans of the former K-pop idol have rushed to defend him stating that the entire case ‘seems to be extremely fishy’ as Seungri’s admission of guilt ended up reducing his sentence instead of holding him accountable for more years in prison.
This goes on to prove the theory circulated among the idol's fans — that Seungri was only a low-level pawn and ultimately a scapegoat for the guilty elites involved in the Burning Sun Scandal, who have gotten away scott-free. With the increased attention given to this public and controversial scandal, another video from the past has resurfaced where an alleged victim is seen being assaulted on camera inside the Burning Sun Hotel.
A report from Naver also alleges that the woman looked like she was intoxicated and sexually assaulted but fans of Seungri have gathered proof stating that was not the case, complicating the truthfulness of claims made online as the scandal seems to be on its last leg.

‘The system made Seungri another victim’
Fans are now rushing to defend the maligned image of the former member of BIGBANG. One fan said, “Just the pure fact that they put him in jail for 3 years (with prosecutor demanding 5 years) when he was denying those charges, to turn it all around and settle for 1.5 year after he admits should tell people that there is something seriously f*cked up going on here.” Another fan stated, “Idk w/SoKor police, investigator, justice sys., knetz whatsoever but, how did they fall fr. this guy scheme?! ending, no justice for the victim and they even created another victim (seungri) to this kind of system.”
One more fan said, “What world do you live in? do you think we live in some kind of fairy tale where the police and justice in many countries are not fucked up? Now read this statement from Seungri and tell me if he had any chance against them even being innocent!” Another fan said, “Seungri got his sentence reduce by admitting to everything. Now...how that work?”
One more fan said, “It's clear he plead guilty only to reduce his sentence. 22 witnesses (all prosecutor's) defended him during his first trial plus prosecutor didn't bring in one single evidence and judge quoted a tabloid article when announcing his first sentence.” Another fan said, “JUST BECAUSE he had no choice. Just to reduce the sentence. Are you aware of plea deal during trial? If not, Google it. And FYI, none of the victims nor witnesses named Seungri as the perpetrator but the one they named just got probation.”
Another fan said, “After years denying ridiculous charges, they force him to accept them so they reduce his sentence and prove to people that they were right about them. He thought by telling the truth he could get his justice but lying was what saved him a little bit.” One more fan said, “Ok, 2cents on what ive always thought on this issue. Seungri has been fighting this issue, to prove his innocence, for around 3-4 years now. And suddenly he admits to everything, overnight??? Doesn't this smell too fishy??”
