In the 2000s, Brittany Murphy was one of the most prominent Hollywood actresses, with credits in movies like 'Clueless', 'Girl, Interrupted', 'Riding in Cars with Boys' and 'Just Married', the last one with her then-flame, Ashton Kutcher.

In 2009, Murphy's death shocked the world as it emerged that the actress had collapsed in the bathroom. As more details began to be uncovered, Murphy's death grew more mysterious. When her husband, Simon Monjack died five months later and had a similar autopsy report as his late wife, suspicion grew.

Plot

According to ID's press site, the synopsis for the special states: "Brittany Murphy was a rising star who had it all, beauty, fame, and success … but she also had secrets. When she is found dead in her Los Angeles home at just 32 years old, Hollywood and legions of fans are left in disbelief. While her autopsy reveals that she died of natural causes, many believe foul play is involved. Details of her life and death emerge after her husband, Simon Monjack, and mother, Sharon Murphy, embark on a bizarre media blitz, creating more questions than answers. Then, within months, Monjack perishes under strikingly similar circumstances – in the same bed he and Brittany once shared, only this time, allegedly with Brittany’s mother sleeping beside him. In an exclusive final interview, the late Angelo Bertolotti, Brittany’s father, casts doubt on the conclusion that she died of natural causes and reveals bizarre allegations against other family members. Featured in the special are intimate interviews, in-depth access to forensic details, and alternative explanations about the cause of death. The special will revisit the case from a whole new angle to examine the truth behind Brittany’s heartbreaking demise."

Cast

The ID special will feature Angelo Bertolotti, Brittany Murphy's father, who had alleged that a toxicology report showed that deliberate poisoning by heavy metals, including antimony and barium, was a possible cause of Murphy's death.
