Among all the unexpected twists, the one thing that has divided fans is the elaborate sex scene between Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton.

When Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) had a moment of passion in a carriage in Season 3 Episode 4, fans knew that they needed more it. Much to their expectations, Shondaland did deliver steamy scenes between the new couple.

Season 3 also created history by delivering show's longest sex scene. Yes, that's right. Penelope and Colin's first sex scene is approximately six minutes long.

In Season 3 Episode 5, Colin takes Penelope to the Bridgerton property that would be their home after the wedding. As they get a moment alone, they make the most of it.

It all starts when they look at each other through the mirror and Colin starts touching her up and down. The foreplay soon turns into an explicit sex scene where Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton go completely nude.

Fans find Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton's sex scene "cringe" and "unnecessarily long"

Fans wanted steamy romance between Colin and Penelope. Despite meeting the fans' demand, the show has somehow failed at charming them.

The six-minute sex scene feels unnecessarily long to a lot of fans. Someone bashed it in a tweet that reads, "Why is colin and penelope's sex scene five thousand years long i'm in so much pain i did not consent to witness that shit."

"Penelope & Colin having sex at a weird ass angle.. and why is the sex scene 10 hours long?" reads another similar comment.

Despite Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan's best attempts at delivering a steamy scene, fans feel it was a "forced chemistry".

An unimpressed fan wrote, "Bridgerton is nauseatingly bad. The sex scenes are badly shot. Forced chemistry & love story. The camera person focusing so much on Nicola Coughlan’s chest than her acting. I mean what the f**k?"

Several other fans called their sex scenes "awkward" and "cringe".

A 'Bridgerton' fan said, "The Colin Penelope sex scene is so awkward. Not giving at all and its so unnecessarily long. Bro said this is gonna hurt a bit and just shoves ts in what this ain't the romance I signed up for Bridgerton."

"It’s like they are trying to make us hate Penelope and Colin as a couple because what was that sex scene Shonda," added another user.

Fans feel that they would have been happy without the long sex scene as well. Expressing the same, a fan wrote, "We absolutely did NOT need all 6 minutes of that sex scene omggg."

"I really could have done without a sex scene from Colin and Penelope," added another.

Well, despite the hatred, there's an army of Polin fans who can't stop gushing over their romance. One of the many positive comments reads, "I’m absolutely captivated by how sensual and beautiful Colin and Penelope’s first time is. I’ll never be over this. THEY LOOK LIKE A RENAISSANCE PAINTING."
