Will there be a 'Bridgerton' Season 2? Here's which couple period drama could focus on in the next installment
Spoilers for 'Bridgerton' the Netflix series and the novel series
Netflix's 'Bridgerton' released eight episodes of its first season on December 25, 2020 and with the combination of wealth and lust, it seems to be quite the scandalous watch. The series is based on the eight-book novel series by author Julia Quinn and it follows the life of the Bridgeton family with Regency-era England as a backdrop. It follows the family's eight siblings who find themselves in high society 1800s England as they navigate their way through a competitive marriage market.
The first season of the series is based on the first book of the novel series titled 'The Duke and I' and followed the eldest of the Bridgerton siblings, Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page). Considering the novel series consists of eight books, one for each of the Bridgerton siblings, we think it's right to assume that a Season 2 would follow the next book in line. Yes, you heard that right, there will be a second season.
News of Season 2 of 'Bridgerton' being in development was first heard of in February 2020 with reports claiming that the series was filming the season in July 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, reports claim that there were production disruptions and therefore work was halted. As of now, the filming start date has been rescheduled to March 2021. While there isn't an actual release date for Season 2, it has been reported that we're likely to see it drop in 2022.
As for which couple the second season would focus on? The second book in the novel series is 'The Viscount Who Loved Me' and follows Anthony Bridgerton who has not only decided to marry but has also chosen a wife. Unfortunately for him though, his chosen's elder sister Kate Sheffield's meddling may be his only obstacle. Kate doesn't want Anthony to marry her sister, but for Anthony, it seems as though Kate lives in his erotic dreams. So, since the first season followed 'The Duke and I' with Daphne Bridgerton, we would assume that the second season will follow the second book in the novel series, and take us on Anthony's journey with Kate.
All eight episodes of 'Brigerton' is now available to stream on Netflix.
