'Botched Bariatrics' viewers claim TLC show is 'kind of a bad ad for bariatric surgery' with rushed up cases
CINCINNATI, OHIO: TLC has already aired the first episode of their new show 'Botched Bariatrics', which follows patients whose lives have been destroyed by complications after bariatric surgery. However, after the episode aired, many were asking whether the show reflected a negative picture of bariatric surgery in general.
Sean, a desperate guy who had to seek medical care after a failed weight loss procedure ended in him "pooping myself on stage," appeared in the first episode on May 15.
He informed doctors that after his operation, he had "explosive bowels," making it difficult for him to continue playing drums with his band. After a brief visit to Dr Charlotte Hodges, he felt better than ever and could finally leave his shameful past behind him.
The Wednesday episode also featured Latoya, who was left with a large lump as a result of a botched hernia operation.
"I woke up with a large 'pendulum' between my legs!" she informed the camera. "Part of my bowels had died."
Drs Yasir Khan and Neilendu Kundu took on this challenging case and helped the mother get on with her life and take active participation in her children's lives.
However, given Latoya's case was a result of "botched" hernia surgery, and Sean's case, viewers took to X to share their views on the new TLC show.
One user wrote, "So that doesn't sound like a botched bariatric surgery. Sounds like he's overeating and because he's bypassing the upper part of his intestine he's having dumping syndrome."

One confused fan wrote, "I'm so confused...did she have a bariatric surgery that went wrong first and is now getting a revision or did the C-section cause all these issues? I'm lost." Another viewer felt, "This show is kind of a bad ad for bariatric surgery."

After watching Latoya's case viewers questioned, "How does a WOMAN get weight loss surgery and end up with testicles?" A fifth user suggested, "I feel like the background stories are rushed and not very clear on botchedbariatrics . They need to take some notes from E's Botched which does a really good job on giving you the background on how the patient had a botched experience as well as the timeline."

Some users complained, "Maybe they should just do one case. They’re rushing this so I’m confused. I think they’re leaving stuff out." Another person chimed in, "Okay they’re leaving explanations up for 5 seconds. No time to read! And I’m a retired reading teacher."
