BURBANK, CALIFORNIA: Bonnie Raitt made her first public appearance following her surprise victory over a star-studded field of candidates for 'Song of the Year' at the 2023 Grammy Awards on February 5. The 73-year-old blues singer was out and about on the morning of February 6 in Burbank, California, meeting up with friends and appeared cheerful and at ease while flashing her gorgeous smile.

The 'I Can't Make You Love Me' singer, who sported a black cowboy hat, paused to chat with some friends before getting ready to board a flight out of Los Angeles. She donned a black sweatshirt, a blue zip-up jacket, matching sneakers, and large sunglasses. To keep it casual, Raitt decided not to wear any jewelry and put her auburn hair in a low ponytail for the outing.

The California native won the Grammys after defeating Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Adele, Harry Styles, DJ Khaled, Beyonce, Steve Lacy, GAYLE, and Kendrick Lamar. First Lady Dr Jill Biden gave Raitt the Song of the Year award. Her victory marked the first time a song written by a single songwriter has won the award since the late Amy Winehouse won in 2008 for the song 'Rehab'.

During her award speech, Raitt honored the late singer-songwriter John Prine, who died from coronavirus in April 2020. In honor of the song, which she said was inspired by organ donors, and the late singer-songwriter Prine, Raitt referred to her victory in the laden category as an "unreal moment."

Raitt now has 13 Grammys to her name and over 30 nominations 

In her speech, Raitt referenced songwriters as the "soul-digging, hard-working people who put these ideas to music." Earlier in the evening, at the Grammy Premiere ceremony, Raitt also took up the Best Americana Performance and Best American Roots Song awards for her songs 'Made Up Mind' and 'Just Like That'. Following the successful evening, Raitt now has 13 Grammys to her name after receiving 30 nominations. Prior to Sunday, she last won the Grammy for Best Americana Album award at the ceremony in 2013, for the album Slipstream, as per Daily Mail.

Prior to the ceremony, Raitt had expressed how "proud" she was at becoming a Song of the Year nominee. "I'm always really proud to be acknowledged," she said on the red carpet at the Crypto.com Arena. "To be acknowledged for song of the year this time is pretty big – so, for one of my tunes? That's a big thing for me, so I'm very proud."

The 21-year-old daughter of Broadway star John Raitt and pianist Marge Goddard released her self-titled debut album in 1971 after being signed by Warner Bros Records. At the 22nd Grammy Awards in 1979, she received her first nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female for the song 'You're Gonna Get What's Coming'.

In a statement posted to her website, Raitt, who has released 21 albums throughout her career, stated that she places a high value on creating music with a message. "I’m really aware of how lucky I am and I feel like my responsibility is to get out there and say something fresh and new - for me and for the fans," she said. "It’s really daunting not to repeat yourself, but I have to have something to say, or I wouldn’t put out a record."
