When it comes to reigning on sitcoms, there is perhaps no one more renowned than Chuck Lorre for creating some of America's best-known programs. With hits like 'Two and a Half Men', 'Dharma and Greg' and 'The Big Bang Theory' already under his name, whenever Lorre comes up with a new sitcom the expectations are high. The same was true of 'Bob Hearts Abishola' which premiered on CBS during the 2019 fall season.

The heat on 'Bob Hearts Abishola' was higher because for the first time on American television, an African immigrant was going to be the main character. In fact, half of 'Bob Hearts Abishola's' main cast were Black people — which was something new for Lorre. Lorre spoke about how immigrants make America great as he promoted the show as he acknowledged that the immigrant population in the United States. While the first season had its hiccups, the sitcom did fairly well and even amassed an international audience. The sitcom has been renewed for Season 2 and it is finally returning to CBS in November as the fall schedule was delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The second season of 'Bob Hearts Abishola' will premiere on CBS on Monday, November 16, at 8.30 pm EST.

Plot

In the first season, we met Bob, a 50-year old compression-sock businessman from Detroit in a competitive trade. He runs the business with his family that includes Dottie his protective mother who also depends on him to run the business; Christina, his high-strung sister, and Douglas, his unenthusiastic brother. When Bob has a heart attack and is treated at the hospital, he meets Abishola, a nurse who has immigrated to America from Nigeria. Abishola is a single mother who is trying to ensure a better life for her son, Dele. Abishola and her son live with her orthodox Nigerian relatives, Aunt Olu and Uncle Tunde.

Bob takes a liking to Abishola and sets out to win her heart. Abishola, who initially lacks interest, starts warming up to him. Through Bob and Abishola, we get to see a new side of immigrant life in America as Bob tries to woo her. She eventually falls for him and their families get closer. We also learn that Abishola is estranged from her husband. The second season of 'Bob Hearts Abishola' starts with Bob enlisting Uncle Tunde's help to buy an engagement ring for Abishola. However, his plans are upended because Abishola does not believe in a traditional marriage.

Billy Gardell is a stand-up comedian and actor who is best known for his role as a Chicago police officer Mike Biggs, in the sitcom 'Mike and Molly'. He has also acted in 'My Name is Earl' and 'Young Sheldon'. Gardell plays the title character, Bob.

Folake Olowofoyeku

Folake Olowofoyeku is an actress originally from Nigeria. She has previously acted in 'How To Get Away With Murder', '30 Rock' and 'Westworld'. She plays the role of Abishola which is her first leading role in American television.

The sitcom has been created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, Alan Higgins and Gina Yashere. Lorre is known for creating sitcoms like 'Two and a Half Men', 'The Big Bang Theory', 'Mom' and 'Young Sheldon'. Gorodetsky has written for 'Mom', 'Mike and Molly' and 'Saturday Night Live'. Higgins has previously worked on "Malcolm in the Middle' and 'Mike and Molly'. Yashere is a British comedian of Nigerian origin who has worked on 'The Daily Show with Trevor Noah' and 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'.
