If there's one thing the harrowed FBI team has learned, it is that Madeline Burke (Mary Elizabeth) will sink to the lowest level to make life miserable for them. Clearly, framing them and trying to get them killed in a drone strike wasn't enough. She has now raised the stakes, as she has Kurt Weller's (Sullivan Stapleton) ex-wife Ally in custody. To make matters worse, she warns that danger will come in some form to Kurt's daughter, Bethany, if he doesn't turn himself in.  While this will keep the team distracted, Madeline plans to go ahead with her plans of releasing the poisonous chemicals into the cities, that will erase people's memories forever.

The official synopsis of the episode reads, "To stop Madeline from shipping two planes full of ZIP to the U.S., the team splits up into a high-stakes undercover mission and intercepts Madeline's son; Madeline interrogates an old ally to get information on Kurt and the team."

In the promos, Ally holds up Bethany's photo to the camera and pleads Weller to surrender.

In Episode 5, Weller was abducted by Madeline's minion Ivy Sands and interrogated by about his team. Obviously, Weller did not hand information over to her, she injected him with a drug, and he began to see hallucinations of his father, Jane's (Jaimie Alexander) ex-boyfriend Oscar and the rest of the criminals he had to kill, almost making him doubt himself. In his drug-induced state, Weller revealed to Ivy that the team was in a bunker.

After bombing the team's hideout and Edgar killing Reade (Rob Brown), Madeline killed Brianna point-blank in front of Matthew Weitz (Aaron Abrahams), in order to demonstrate what she will do to anyone who betrays her. Weitz is completely under her thumb at this point and is too terrified to compromise his safety or anyone elses.

The FBI team is already emotionally and physically drained and now they've been pushed to the wall. Do they have it in them to think of an ingenious trick to get out of Madeline's clutches, and ensure Bethany's safety? That remains to be seen.

'Blindspot' airs on NBC, Thursdays at 9 pm.
