Who in the world could have anticipated that the only time Blackpink would pick to make a comeback, after almost a two-year hiatus, would be in the same month as BTS? Not any K-pop fan in their sane mind of course. On April 26, various Korean media outlets revealed that Blackpink’s long-awaited comeback was set to release in June of 2022. This comes after Blackpink last released their full-length album, ‘The Album’ back in January of 2020 and went on what fans claim is a break that is as long as a military enlistment period for Korean-born males.

With Blackpink not releasing any new music in the last 18 months, Blinks had become increasingly restless. Before the news about this comeback, many rumors had been floating on the internet that suggested that Blackpink would release a new album along with a world tour, or the fact that Blackpink would have not one but two comebacks in 2022 alone. Members Jisoo and Jennie also sparked rumors about solo projects which were all unconfirmed, leaving fans curious. However, the news of a full-group comeback from Blackpink is not far-fetched as Jennie herself confirmed a comeback back in February 2022.

Will Blackpink have a comeback in June?

Now, as Kmedia reports that Blackpink will be releasing a comeback album in June, fans of BTS are wondering why YG Entertainment picked June 2022 for the girl group's comeback. BTS members shocked fans on April 16, during the last day of their ‘Permission to Dance on Stage’ Las Vegas concert as they revealed that the boy group was going to make a comeback on June 10, 2022. This album will be the first comeback album from BTS since the last release of their 2020 self-produced album, ‘BE’ that was released before their last two English singles, ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’.

Fans of BTS have been better 'fed' with content as the seven-member boy group has been extremely active over the last few years, with members constantly giving fans more solo as well as group projects to enjoy. But that has not been the case for Blinks (fans of Blackpink). Even though Blackpink has not had a full group comeback in the last 1.5 years, all members have been booked and busy when it comes to their solo projects.

Other than being featured in major brand adverts as well as attending various fashion events, members have been working on solo music. Rose released her solo single album, ‘R’ in March of 2021 while  Lisa her solo single album, ‘Lalisa’ in September of 2021. Jisoo on the other hand finally got her big acting break with the Disney+ and JTBC K-drama, ‘Snowdrop’ while Jennie featured in a few music videos as well as variety shows like 'The Game Caterers 2'.

‘YG is intentionally creating fan wars’

With all that being said, fans of Blackpink are desperate for a comeback from the girl group. The outcome of having two of the biggest K-pop groups in the world — the BTS and Blackpink clash — seems like a tale for the history books. Some fans of both groups claim that a comeback in the same month would feel like re-living the rookie days of both groups as they appeared in music shows at the same time back in the day while some BTS fans think YG made the wrong decision having Blackpink make a comeback on the same month as BTS who are known as sales and chart monsters.

One Armyblink (fan of both groups) said, “Bts & blackpink comeback in june, it's the time of the year for being an armyblink.” Another fan said, “June is officially THE best month of the whole year. I’m getting both BlackPink AND BTS comebacks. My armyblink heart is so happy right now.” One more fan joked, “Meanwhile me, a broke armyblink waiting for their cb.” One the other hand one fan wondered, “Wait what?! blackpink anticipating comeback in June? what’s wrong with YG lol? trying to overlap with BTS comeback, they want another fanwars huh.” One more fan said, “Bro that's legit what worried me. Both of them are my ults and I'm super annoyed mostly because we already saw twice what happened if Blackpink had comeback near BTS in 2020. Why can't YG actually STFU i think it's intentionally doing this to create fan wars.”

One Blink stated, “Kpop stans getting mad over blackpink's unconfirmed comeback and is a way for them to drag blackpink unprovoked. at this point, i'm convinced that blackpink is indeed the biggest threat to all kpop hoes in the industry, if you would agree or not that's the truth.” Another fan responded, “Blackpink is really a threat to all & that includes BTS. Blackpink is known for setting & breaking records. The ONLY group that BTS considered as their archrival in setting records. No wonder armys are anxious right now. But it says "June at the earliest" so that means July,” the added, “Plus Hybe's very early announcement of BTS comeback is their subtle message to YG to not make Blackpink do a comeback in June. YG artists has been doing a comeback month after month, so hybe's wants to secure the June month so that BPs comeback will not overlap with BTS.”
