It takes a good sitcom to keep going after five seasons and it takes a great sitcom to do so while being socially relevant. 'Black-ish' and the Johnson family are coming back for a seventh season this fall. The ABC sitcom, which has already resulted in two successful spin-offs, 'Grown-ish' and 'Mixed-ish', has made leaps and bounds when it comes to representation. 'Black-ish' has always been important, but in the aftermath of this year's protests, we cannot wait to see what the show has in store for viewers.

The single-camera comedy has, over the last five seasons, garnered a fair amount of acclaim and praise for its treatment of issues surrounding race, police brutality, and others. Read on to know more about the upcoming season.

Release date

'Black-ish' Season 7 will premiere on ABC on Wednesday, October 21, at 9:30 pm EST.

Plot

Black-ish follows an upper-middle-class African-American family led by Andre 'Dre' Johnson and Rainbow Johnson. The show revolves around the family's lives, as they juggle several personal and sociopolitical issues. The show also features the characters Zoey Johnson, Andre Johnson, Jr., Jack Johnson, and Diane Johnson. It tells the story of their lives as they juggle several personal and socio-political issues.

The show has received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, and a TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy. Meanwhile, Tracee Ellis Ross has received individual praise, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

Tracee Ellis Ross is an actress, singer and television host. She is known for her roles in 'Girlfriends', 'Hanging Up', 'Reed Between the Lines' and 'Daddy's Little Girls'. She plays the role of Dre's wife, Rainbow Johnson.

The series also stars Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre "Junior" Johnson Jr, Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson, Anna Deavere Smith as Alicia Johnson, Austin and Berlin Gross as Devante Johnson, Peter Mackenzie as Leslie Stevens, Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy and Jeff Meacham as Josh Oppenhol. Both Shahidi and Scribner will only appear in guest roles through Season 7.
