'Black Mitzvah': Release date, plot, news and all you need to know about Tiffany Haddish's Netflix special

The comedian, who is turning 40, has decided to throw herself a bat mitzvah, to commemorate her Jewish heritage.
PUBLISHED NOV 15, 2019

After two successful comedy specials on Netflix, titled 'She Ready' and 'They Ready', Tiffany Haddish is putting out yet another special that promises to be comedy gold and an all-round entertainment package.

The comedian, who is turning 40, has decided to throw herself a bat mitzvah, to commemorate her Jewish heritage. Filled with performances from a host of her celebrity friends, she has called her unusual bat mitzvah her ‘Black Mitzvah', and we cannot lie, we are pretty excited to watch it.

Release Date

Coinciding with Haddish's 40th birthday, 'Black Mitzvah' is scheduled to premiere on December 3.

What can you expect?

Haddish dropped a video announcement for 'Black Mitzvah' on her Instagram channel November 9, and in it she explained that “It’s called Black Mitzvah for a reason – because I’m black, and on that same day, I’m gonna have my bat mitzvah, and then I’ll be an official, grown woman. 'And what do you mean you’re black and you’re having a bat mitzvah, Tiffany?’ Well, don’t know if y’all know this about me, but I’m Jewish. I’m Jewish by DNA. I did my 23 & Me. I know what I am. I’m a real Hebrew over here. So, because of my father, I want to honor him and our ancestors."

She further added, "I want to do something that represents growth and maturity. And I want to teach. That’s what I’ve been put on this planet to do: teach. And Judaism is all about that – teaching, learning, sharing stories. That’s what Black Mitzvah is all about.”

Cast

At the moment, all we know is that the event will be a celebratory party involving some of Haddish's friends, but who is performing remains a secret still.

Where to watch

When 'Black Mitzvah' premieres on December 3, it will available for streaming via Netflix.
