Contains spoilers for 'Billions' Season 6 Episode 9 'Hindenburg'

How we would love to be wrong here. And perhaps we might be speculating about this: Is Maggie Siff done as Wendy on 'Billions'? Season 6 Episode 9 does hint as much with the character absent in what has to be one of the more interesting episodes of the series so far. Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) gets one over Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and has him removed as New York City's AG. While that comes as the major blow and a shocker, Wendy's zero presence and Taylor's line about her whereabouts will surely have the show's fans wondering if she's out of the show.

One of the storylines of the episode is about Mafee (Daniel E Soder) and Dollar Bill Stearn (Kelly AuCoin) poaching Ben Kim (Daniel K Isaac) and Tuk (Dhruv Maheshwari) to join them at High Plains, and Taylor giving them a friendly, but icy warning about the consequences of backdoor poaching. When Toney Goins' Philio Charyn thinks that this was an issue that the HR or Wendy needs to address, Taylor says, "She's out, she took some personal leave to refocus and reboot." It's typical to keep it crisp and quick, but it also raises the question of whether the writers may have been looking for an exit window for the character.

Wendy is one of the oldest characters on the show, but as far as her trajectory goes, it's been rather downward, except for the spike with that short-lived romance with Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis). Starting from the ruined relationship with Tanner (Frank Grillo) in Season 5, the finalized divorce with Chuck and missing out on the head performance coach of the Olympics gig with Megan Rapinoe (who plays herself and has a cameo in Episode 8), it's been a rough sailing for Siff's character.

Should she leavem she joins the list of some of the key players from the Axelrod era to have left the show. Season 6 aw the departure of Mafee and Dollar Bill Stern in the season opener (not from the show though) and followed it up with Sarah Stiles' Bonnie following suit. And even if she does return, what will be the circumstances? We presume it would be when Chuck wins the next battle and Prince will need Wendy's advice on beating his new nemesis. It's all speculation at the moment, perhaps till Episode 10 at least.

'Billions' airs Sundays at 10 pm ET on Showtime.
